I get asked daily about how my dogs breathe⊠this is Elizabeth doing brain games in Gabyâs giant backyard maze during todayâs heat wave.
Yes, sheâs panting. Itâs hot. Thatâs normal. Panting is how dogs cool themselves downâŠ
What I want people to pay attention to is what you donât hear! There isnât that catch in her throat. There isnât noisy, laboured breathing. She isnât making that harsh upper airway sound that so many people have unfortunately come to accept as ânormal for the breed.â
This is what a French Bulldog should sound like after moving around and using its brain on a hot day!
Elizabeth is also a working medical alert service dog. She helps her handler detect and respond when her ventricular fibrillation acts up. She can retrieve medication, alert appropriately, and even call 911 if needed.
That job requires far more than a cute face! It requires a dog that can think clearly, RECOVER quickly, and physically do the work being asked of it!
This is why I care so much about breathing! It isnât about producing a silent dog. Itâs about producing a dog that can live its life without constantly working harder than it should just to move airâŠ
