đ The Year of the African Wildlife conservation campaign is back with another series post and featured animal. Today, we will slither our way into the life of the ball python!
âïž The ball python is native to central Africa and is part of the reptile class. They are ectothermic, which means they cannot regulate their body heat and must use the sun or shade to control their temperature. Blue, our female ball python here at the Magnetic Hill Zoo, can sometimes be seen sunbathing on her branch in her habitat in the Ecodome.
â»ïž As a near threatened species, ball pythons are impacted by habitat loss. As deforestation takes away the trees and logs, they run out of shady places to cool off. Reducing, reusing and recycling paper is one step towards helping species like ball pythons continue to thrive in their forested habitats.
