Part 7: Nobody wants to shave your dog.

I have never met a groomer who loves shaving a matted dog.

We have to do it because the mat is pulling the skin. Because underneath, the skin is red, sore, sometimes infected. Because leaving it on hurts more than taking it off.

And then we get blamed for the haircut. For the "ugly" shave. For doing the thing that stopped the pain.

Here's the truth nobody says out loud: a matted coat is not a grooming problem. It's a time problem. Somewhere along the way, the brushing stopped. The care stopped. OR There wasn't enough education...

If your dog comes home shaved down, your groomer didn't fail you. They chose the dog over the haircut. That's the job.

Sometimes your dog can look perfectly fine while their coat, nails or ears are already telling you it's time for some attention.

Regular grooming helps you stay ahead of buildup, tangles and other everyday maintenance needs.

13 years. 🎉🐾💛

On October 17, 2013, I opened the doors to Pooches N' Pals. ✨

I was excited. 🥹
I was nervous.
And honestly, I was scared.

What if no one came?
What if I couldn't do this?
What if I failed?

There were hard days. Slow days. Days I questioned everything. 💭

But I never wanted to give up. Because the dogs needed a place where they weren't rushed. Where they were listened to. Where they were cared for first. 🐶💛

So I kept going. We kept going. Through everything.

And most of all, I want to thank the dogs. 🐾

Thank you to every puppy who came in for a first groom, shaking a little. 🥹🐶
To every nervous dog who learned to trust us.
To every senior dog who needed us to slow down and just be gentle. 🤍
You taught me patience. You taught me to pay attention. You are the reason I do this the way I do it.

Thank you to our pet parents. 💛
You trusted me when I was just starting out. You stayed. You told your friends. You let us love your dogs like our own. That trust means everything to me — I don't take it lightly.

And thank you to my team, past and present. 🫶🐾

Thank you for caring for these dogs the way you do, and for standing beside me through the good times and the hard ones.

13 years later, I'm still excited. Still a little nervous sometimes. But mostly, I'm grateful. ✨💛

If the industry won't set a standard, the groomer has to be one.

Anyone can buy clippers. Anyone can call themselves a groomer. There is no gate, no licence, no required training.

That's why I built Care Before Cut — because the standard has to come from us, the people holding the tools.

Safety first. Custom care for the dog in front of you. And the courage to stop when the dog has had enough.

Halloween shouldn't be the only thing giving your pup a fright. 🎃

Regular brushing and grooming can help keep those little tangles from becoming uncomfortable.
