As the temperature drops, keep an eye on these fall-specific risks for your pets 🍂🍁:

- Toxic Fall Plants: Watch out for toxic mushrooms and stick to trails to avoid poison ivy, giant hogweed, and wild parsnip which can be harmful.
- Ticks: They remain active in Ontario throughout the fall until temperatures consistently drop below freezing; Look for ticks in tall grass, wooded areas & piles of fallen leaves.
- Rodenticides: Rodent activity often increases in autumn, leading to more use of rat poisons which are highly dangerous if ingested by pets.
- Seasonal Allergies: Watch for excessive paw licking or skin irritation as mold spores & ragweed levels peak.
- Early Nights: With the sun setting earlier, use reflective gear or LED collars during evening walks to ensure your pet is visible to drivers.
- Weight Management: Pets may become less active as it gets colder; monitor their food intake to prevent unnecessary weight gain.
- Antifreeze: As people begin winterizing cars, be careful of antifreeze leaks; it has a sweet taste but is lethal even in small amounts.

With Canada Day approaching, fireworks displays are on their way! Remember, what's a celebration for us can be a source of intense fear and anxiety for our furry companions. It's crucial to keep our pets safe and sound as we enter fireworks season. 🎆

Here are a few tips:
- Create a safe space: Designate a quiet, secure room where your pet can retreat. Close windows and curtains to muffle sounds and block out flashes of light.
- Distract them: Play some calming music or turn on the TV to help drown out the noise.
- Keep them indoors: Even if your pet usually spends time outside, bring them inside during fireworks displays to prevent them from running away in fear.
- Update ID: Make sure your pet's microchip information is current and they're wearing up-to-date ID tags, just in case.

If your pet experiences severe anxiety during fireworks, please reach out to us! We can discuss strategies and options to help keep them calm. Your pet's well-being is our top priority! ❤️
