I would like to extend my gratitude to Charona for this banner, and to Beatrix for sending it to me.

Given the critically endangered status of our canine companions, which have endured millennia of human dominance and witnessed the collapse of empires that once revered them as royal guardians, it is imperative that we prioritize the protection and promotion of ethical breeding practices. Regrettably, unscrupulous breeders, even in Canada, continue to propagate diseased dogs, with Progressive Retinal Atrophy being more prevalent than dysplasia. Prospective puppy owners should look beyond accolades and request parental health certificates, as prolific breeders often produce subpar litters, exacerbating the issue by selling to other breeders, thereby damaging the breed's reputation; in contrast, reputable breeders focus on quality over quantity. In the midst of lambing season, we had a wee lamb who caught a chill after some dramatic weather mood swings on its second day—basically its first experience of “spring in Canada,” lol.

I always love how my girls just know what to do. They took turns snuggling the little guy like a tiny, woolly hot water bottle. Even Ava—who hadn’t been out to pasture in months—clocked in for her shift like, “I may be retired, but I still got it.”

Between the three of them, it turned into less of a recovery mission and more of a full-on lamb spa: warmth, cuddles, emotional support… probably a few life lessons.

About twenty minutes later, the lamb was back in business and ready for a bottle. Momma ewe didn’t even mind that her baby came back smelling like a sleepover at the girls’ house.

The best part? That lamb spent the night in bed with the three ladies, all taking turns keeping watch—basically a barnyard version of a maternity ward. And somehow… no diaper needed. Honestly, that’s the most impressive part of the whole story.
