To all our amazing RVTs this month (and also all our assistants and receptionists and drs, because we are a team) this 👇🏻 is very true. Love you all 🤎

Some of the best friendships in veterinary medicine start with, “Can you help me hold this dog?”

And somewhere between the impossible appointments, the emergency surgeries, the tears in the hallway, and the lunches nobody actually got to eat, those coworkers become your people.

The ones who can tell you’re having a bad day just by how you put down your pen.

The ones who step in before you even ask.

The ones who have seen you cry, swear, laugh until you can’t breathe, and somehow come back the next morning ready to do it all again.

You don’t always remember every patient, every shift, or every exhausting Tuesday.

But you remember the people who got you through them.

Amongst Friends.

A little something for Veterinary Technician Week, and for everyone who’s ever found their people inside a veterinary hospital.

🎃 HALLOWEEN FIREWORKS & PET SAFETY 🎆🐾

Halloween can be scary for our pets, especially when fireworks start going off! Here are a few simple ways to help keep your furry family members safe:

🐾 Keep them indoors – Walk dogs before dark and keep cats safely inside. Even normally confident pets can panic at unexpected bangs.

🏷️ Check their ID – Make sure your pet is wearing a collar and ID tag with your current phone number, just in case they get frightened and escape. Microchip details should also be up to date!

🏡 Create a safe space – Give them a quiet, cosy place to hide, close windows and curtains, and put on the TV or some music to help muffle the noise.

🎆 Keep them company – Stay calm and offer comfort if they're frightened. Never take your dog to a fireworks display.

💊 Need a little extra help? – If your pet struggles with fireworks anxiety, contact your vet well in advance to discuss medication or other ways to help. Please don't leave it until Halloween night!

🐾 **October is RVT Month!** 🐾

This week, we’re celebrating another one of the wonderful RVTs who helps make Tsolum Veterinary Hospital what it is — **Vanessa, RVT**. 💜

Vanessa is an experienced RVT who brings so much to our team. She is calm, kind, friendly, incredibly observant, and has an exceptional eye for detail.

Her **RVT skills are excellent**. She is knowledgeable, capable, thorough, and brings a high level of confidence and experience to patient care. In veterinary medicine, the little things matter — a subtle change in comfort, an unusual finding, a small change under anesthesia, or something that just doesn’t quite look right. Vanessa has a wonderful ability to notice those details and recognize when they matter.

She also happens to be **very handy — which is honestly an excellent RVT skill in itself!** If something needs fixing, building, adjusting or figuring out, there is a very good chance Vanessa can do it. That practical problem-solving ability carries over beautifully into veterinary medicine, where RVTs are constantly troubleshooting, adapting and finding solutions.

**What does an RVT do?**

RVTs are highly trained medical professionals who play a huge role in patient care, diagnostics and safety. They collect and evaluate samples, run laboratory tests, monitor anesthesia, take radiographs, administer medications, provide nursing care and continually assess how their patients are doing.

A big part of being a great RVT is noticing the things that are easy to miss — and knowing when those details matter.

That is something Vanessa brings to our team every day, along with a calm presence, a kind heart, excellent technical skills, and a willingness to lend a hand wherever it is needed.

We are very thankful for Vanessa’s experience, knowledge, attention to detail, problem-solving skills and the care she gives to our patients and our team. 💜

🐾 October is RVT Month! 🐾

We’re continuing our celebration of the wonderful RVTs who make such a difference at Tsolum Veterinary Hospital. 💜

This week, we’re celebrating Cheyenne, RVT.

Cheyenne may be soft-spoken, but the care and compassion she has for her patients speaks volumes. She is incredibly passionate about patient care and brings a gentle, thoughtful approach to the animals she looks after.

Whether she’s caring for a hospitalized patient, assisting with a procedure, monitoring anesthesia, or simply taking a few extra moments to comfort a nervous little one, Cheyenne truly cares about how her patients are feeling — not just medically, but emotionally too. 🐾

What does an RVT do?

One of the most important roles of an RVT is patient advocacy and nursing care. Our patients can’t tell us when they’re uncomfortable, frightened, nauseous or hurting. RVTs are trained to notice subtle changes, monitor their patients closely and advocate for what they need.

They administer medications, monitor pain and vital signs, provide nursing care, assist with diagnostics and treatments, monitor anesthesia and recovery — and very often provide the reassuring hands and quiet comfort a scared patient needs.

That gentle side of veterinary medicine is something Cheyenne brings naturally.

We are so thankful to have her as part of the Tsolum family and for the genuine compassion she brings to our patients every day. 💜

🍂 A friendly reminder about our opening hours for October and the Thanksgiving weekend. 🍂

At present, we are unable to open late on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Our opening hours will be 8:30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 4:30pm on Saturdays.

We will be resuming our Tuesday and Wednesday evening services from 10th November onwards. 🐾

We will be closed from Saturday 10th October to Monday 12th October for the Thanksgiving holiday and will reopen on Tuesday 13th October.

If your pet is running low on any medications, please let us know as soon as possible so we can fill these for you before the long weekend. You can give us a call or text, or request a refill through your PetDesk app.
