This weekend was filled with so many highs 🤩. We had a great time Odessa Horse and Pony Club Spring Clinic with Shannon Townsend. Very helpful. I am planning to have Shannon come to Swiftwind to do a day of lessons. If you’re interested, let me know.
We finally shipped out Psycho the cow 🐮. That’s one less injury to deal with.
Our Swiftwind kids learned about tack and earned Here Comes the Groom level 1 badge. She was so excited to lead Magic through the obstacles, especially over the bridge, today.
Finally…Lacey went to prom Sunday evening. She met up with a friend and had a blast.

Shout out to Greenhawk and Bark & Fitz Kingston for hooking us up with new halters for Dodge and Jewel…and in their assigned colours 😍
Jewel 💎 ruined her spare purple halter this morning so it was time for a restock. Dodge’s spare was wearing so he got to strut his stuff in the pasture with his new navy halter.
It was a great morning for a riding lesson with a client. She was assigned a different horse so we changed the lesson into a Me-Time session for her to become better acquainted with her new partner 🐴.
Mr. Toad and Toad junior have not returned but Miss Froggette 🐸 has moved in. She is quite a vibrant green 🐸 .

Such a gruelling day. Charles and I had to sort the cattle for the vet visit. The vet had to de-quill the 4 cows🐮. It was quite adventure. The cows' hides were so thick that needles were constantly bent or broke. They definitely gave the vet a run for her money but she did awesome.
She said it was rare this year for cows to get quills BUT it was really common for calls about horses being quilled. Thank god my horses🐴 had brains not to be curious.
BB and Wheezy watched on thinking "Glad we stayed away from that pin cushion📍." The horses🐴 were glad to clean up the cow grain, enjoying the wonderful evening.

Well this is cow week for us. Another cow got nailed by a porcupine last night 🤦🏼‍♀️. That makes 4 cows 🐮 now. We called a friend of ours who’s a hunter to see if he can track it down. The vet is coming tomorrow to extract quills. It’s $200 per cow 😭.
Today we loaded a calf up and I took it to the butcher.
Hopefully 🤞🏻Saturday we are sending a cow to auction. She’s quite a nasty cow (aka Psycho) so I’ll be glad to see her go.
We are switching out the older cows with nasty tendencies for younger, calmer cows this year. It’s not safe for us or the vet during calving season as they become extremely, dangerously protective of their calf. I already got a nasty concussion and hurt my back and shoulder. Charles has been rammed god knows how times. We’re not getting any younger and it’s not worth it.
This week ALL the animals are in heat so the horses are getting a break from riding while we deal with cows 🐮. The horses 🐴 aren’t complaining 😄

This weekend was full of awesome highlights and an unwanted surprise. With the impending rainstorm for Sunday, everything was moved to Saturday.
Friday I was riding and training in-between the errands while Charles worked fields. I also arranged some services and created social media content for Odessa Horse and Pony Club-part of my Director duties.
Saturday there were riding lessons with a newcomer. She enjoyed her first riding experience.
Swiftwind kids learned about body parts, horse colouring and markings and tested out the obstacles. They had the privilege of taking Magic through obstacles after she rehabbed from a severe COPD flare up in March. She also had a bacterial infection so it was touch and go the past couple months. Thankfully she’s out of woods, but in the thicket. It was great to see her out guiding new swiftwind kids like she has done in the past.
We also had new clients visit Swiftwind. Charles planted right til the rain came.
Sunday was a slower day. I worked on paperwork. We went the farm to do maintenance and feed the herd.
The evening was quiet until…9pm 🐮.

Charles and I rushed over the see parts of the electrical fence unhooked and all the cows in the barnyard (horses were in the lake field). So we fixed the fence and got home at 9:40pm. Who needs date night…just wait for a cow 🐮 or horse 🐴 escape 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️
