Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.
In veterinary medicine, we spend our days caring for others. We advocate for patients who cannot speak for themselves, support families through difficult decisions, celebrate the good days, and carry the weight of the hard ones. But sometimes, the people caring for everyone else need someone to care for them too.
The veterinary profession faces a significant mental health burden, and behind every statistic is a real person. A colleague, a friend, a family member, a technician, a veterinarian, a receptionist, a kennel assistant, or someone who simply cares deeply about animals.
At Sears Animal Hospital, we believe that asking āare you okay?ā matters. Taking a moment to check in matters. Listening without judgment matters. And reminding someone that they don't have to carry everything alone matters. Today, and every day, let's make our profession a place where it is okay to say, āI'm struggling.ā Where asking for help is met with compassion rather than judgment. Where we look after the people who spend their lives looking after others.
You are more than your job.
You are more than the difficult case.
You are more than the mistake you think you made.
You matter.
If you are struggling, please reach out to someone you trust or seek professional support. You don't have to wait until things feel unbearable to ask for help. Let's change the narrative. Let's check in. Let's listen. Let's take care of each other.
