Lyme disease is no joke and heartworm disease is even worse. Of course, no one wants to see their pets sick so we always recommend prevention rather than treatment. Its much easier on the pocketbook as well! 💲☺️

Found a tick on your pet? 🪳🧐😲
We know this can be alarming however we are always here to help!

First thing we should do is remove the tick IF you are comfortable in doing so and have a proper tick remover at home. The goal is to remove the tick fully intact without leaving the head in your dog's skin. There's quite a few videos on Youtube if you need some guidance. Of course, if you aren't comfortable with that, bring your pet in and we will remove it for you!

Next is identifying the tick! There is an app you can use called etick.ca where you can upload a photo of the tick. It will tell you if its one that carries disease. Or again, you can bring it to the clinic, and we can identify it for you!

We do recommend running some bloodwork to check for tick-borne illnesses (like Lyme disease) 4-6 weeks post bite just to make sure your dog isn't infected. Because the immune system takes this long to produce detectable antibody levels, testing immediately after a bite usually results in a false-negative, so we need to wait a few weeks.

Finally, and most importantly, make sure you have your pet on flea/tick prevention year-round as they now live in our area, even in the winter months.

A simple once-over after time outside can help spot anything early and keep your pet feeling their best. Also, keep a lint roller inside your car or at your door so you can check yourself for ticks as well!

Every spring we hear people saying how bad the ticks are and yes, we couldn't agree more! A few years ago, the ticks were mainly found along the Lake Erie shoreline in tall grasses however with the climate change, they have now fully moved into the London and area region.

People are pulling ticks off themselves and their pets every day. We always recommend checking yourself and your pets for tick after being outside, especially after a hike or walking in the parks. Keeping a lint roller in your car so you can run it over your clothes is a handy trick too!

Fireworks may be exciting for us, but for many dogs and cats they can be frightening and stressful. 🎆🐾

Here are a few simple ways to help keep pets safe and calm during fireworks season:

• Keep pets indoors before dark
• Close windows, curtains, and blinds to reduce noise and flashes
• Create a quiet, comfortable “safe space” with their favorite blanket or toy
• Make sure collars, tags, and microchip information are up to date
• Walk dogs earlier in the evening before fireworks begin
• Never bring pets to fireworks displays
• Stay calm and reassuring — pets often look to us for comfort

If your pet struggles with severe anxiety, give us a call about calming strategies that may help. This could be anything from calming supplements to mild sedation.

A little preparation can make a big difference in helping our furry family members feel safe. ❤️

UPDATE: Turbo and Ditto have both been adopted, YAY!!! We are so happy they have their new families!
Paxter is still waiting for her new family however that is currently (hopefully) in the works so we will keep everyone posted.

We’re reaching out with a heavy heart to help find loving homes for three cats after the passing of a cherished client.

These cats have been deeply loved and are now looking for a new chapter where they can feel safe and cared for again. 💛

🐾 14 yr old Ditto is very loving and affectionate
🐾 13 yr old Paxter is a queen in every which way
🐾 12 yr old Turbo is a man who knows what he wants, when he wants it!

They are all spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, and we’re happy to share full medical histories.

Ideally, we’d love for them to stay together but of course, they can all be rehomed separately if needed. We’re looking for patient, loving homes that can give them time to adjust after this big change.
