We do need your help however...
One of our clients have come upon a lovely little stray cat who's been in their backyard for the past couple of nights. They have made her a cozy little home and she looks to be in great health... she's so sweet! They did bring her in to scan for a microchip but there is none.

Please let us know if you know who owns this sweet little girl! She will eventually be taken to LACC but we would like to reunite her with her owners if we can do so.

Hope everyone is staying safe on these smokey days we're having! And as usual, limit your outdoor time with your furry friends as the heat and humidity can be dangerous!

High temperatures can cause heatstroke which occurs when a dog's body temperature rises to dangerously high levels, overwhelming their natural cooling mechanisms.

Humidity significantly exacerbates the risk of heatstroke in dogs. High humidity reduces the effectiveness of panting. When the air is saturated with moisture, it's harder for your dog's panting to evaporate moisture and cool them down 🥵☀️

Sometimes we don't even know if our pets have been bit by a tick, or if they have an internal parasite. The ticks are so small and sneaky, then can easily go unnoticed. Watching for these signs can help us realize if/when they aren't feeling well and should be seen by a vet.

Its surgery day here again at Fairmont AH!

Here's Harley and Niklaus heading home at the end of a sleepy day at the clinic!
We always keep our surgery patients for the full day, just to make sure the anesthesia wears off and they're up and walking before heading home... doesn't mean they aren't still feeling the effects though!! Too cute ☺️🩷

Preventing disease is much easier than treating it!

Lyme disease is no joke and heartworm disease is even worse. Of course, no one wants to see their pets sick so we always recommend prevention rather than treatment. Its much easier on the pocketbook as well! 💲☺️

Found a tick on your pet? 🪳🧐😲
We know this can be alarming however we are always here to help!

First thing we should do is remove the tick IF you are comfortable in doing so and have a proper tick remover at home. The goal is to remove the tick fully intact without leaving the head in your dog's skin. There's quite a few videos on Youtube if you need some guidance. Of course, if you aren't comfortable with that, bring your pet in and we will remove it for you!

Next is identifying the tick! There is an app you can use called etick.ca where you can upload a photo of the tick. It will tell you if its one that carries disease. Or again, you can bring it to the clinic, and we can identify it for you!

We do recommend running some bloodwork to check for tick-borne illnesses (like Lyme disease) 4-6 weeks post bite just to make sure your dog isn't infected. Because the immune system takes this long to produce detectable antibody levels, testing immediately after a bite usually results in a false-negative, so we need to wait a few weeks.

Finally, and most importantly, make sure you have your pet on flea/tick prevention year-round as they now live in our area, even in the winter months.

A simple once-over after time outside can help spot anything early and keep your pet feeling their best. Also, keep a lint roller inside your car or at your door so you can check yourself for ticks as well!
