[ 10 ADOPTED, 5 REMAINING ]

In June, 25+ Shih Tzu's were found dumped in rural fields with horrible cases of sarcoptic mange.

Mattie's Place welcomed 15 of these precious souls.

Broomy joined us from Cambridge & District Humane Society. A great shelter if you're looking to adopt. Be sure to check them out!

The shelter got his sarcoptic mange treatment started & his vaccines underway. Thank you for that. It saved Mattie's Place a chunk of funds.

We continued with care on his arrival, including his neuter.

Broomy is a young guy, maybe 2 years old. He's only 10 pounds. He is the nicest, sweetest boy you could hope to meet. Despite what a horrific, uncaring life he lead the 1st 2 years of his life, he brings none of that forward and is the sweetest boy with everyone and everything he meets.

This week, Broomy was able to meet some equally special people. They loved their last Shih Tzu for 16 years. They then adopted a special needs dog from another rescue & despite learning he was far more special needs than the rescue ever shared, they dedicated 8 months to him and stopped at nothing to ensure he received all the medical support and compassion with loads of love until they had to say good-bye.

Broomy is a very lucky boy that they said yes, and have officially welcomed him into their life. Broomy is in the safest hands and will have an incredible life, wanting for nothing, having this couple as his people.

Congratulations Broomy on your official adoption.

Thank you Jennifer & family for fostering.

Because I know a lot of you are yorkie fans ❤️.

Meet King.

So stinkin cute.

He's a wee bit of a worrier right now but I'm sure with time and lots of love, he'll soon turn that wee face into exactly what finding happy looks like.

King did used to live with a young child and another dog so we know he's got those things down pat.

When family was moving (keep in mind that not all provinces are like Ontario where pets can come to rentals too, they sadly had to surrender their pets to a shelter.

King, at 8 years old sure has a lot of adventures ahead of him. He just needs a little time and patience to do it.

Oh- and in case you're wondering- yes, we have the other dog too (you'll meet them tomorrow) but with knowing they are NOT bonded and that they actually bring out the worst in one another 😉, we opted for two separate fosters instead.

King is not yet accepting applications since he's only just arrived. He's already part of the neuter is cuter club- and sees our vet clinic shortly for any additional next steps we'll be sure to take.

Time to leave those worries behind little one. Only good stuff ahead.

The dog with the perfect blend of snuggles vs loveable yorkie sass. It's King!

Welcome to Happy's Place.

Becca - available for adoption

Havanese - Female - 15 lbs - 5 yrs (approx)

Spayed/Vaccines UTD/Microchipped
Foster Location: Bradford, ON

Sponsored by Elaine Bombay – In memory of Maizy so that another family can know the love and joy of welcoming a rescue dog into their home.

Meet Becca! 🐾💕
Becca is a sweet, gentle 5-year-old Havanese who weighs about 15lbs. This little retired mama came from a puppy mill in Ohio and is now discovering what it means to be a loved family dog.

Becca is shy and easily startled, especially when meeting new people or experiencing new things, but she is making wonderful progress everyday. With patience and time, she is beginning to show her sweet personality and let her humans into her world.

She is learning to enjoy walks, loves relaxing and rolling in the grass, and finds comfort in cozy little spaces. She isn't a big cuddler, but she loves staying close to her people and will happily cling to you when she needs reassurance.❤️
Becca is still working on housetraining, large stairs, car rides, and trusting the humans around her. She may experience some separation anxiety while left alone, but this is the only time she will bark. She prefers to feel more secure in a small plastic kennel over a big metal crate as they make her more nervous. She has done well with young children but needs calm, gentle interactions and people who understand that she needs to approach things at her own pace.
Becca has previously done well with other small dogs and seems to gain confidence from having a canine friend around, so another friendly dog in her forever home would be a wonderful bonus. A fenced yard would also be ideal for this little grass-loving girl!

Becca isn't looking for a home that expects her to blossom overnight. She's looking for someone who will give her patience, security, and lots of love while she learns that she is safe.
With the right family, we know this sweet little girl has so much love and potential to give. 💗
Could you be the one to help Becca discover her true colours and give her a furever home?

13 senior dogs were surrendered to a kill shelter when their owner suddenly passed away. 😢

When dogs are surrendered by their owners (next of kin couldn't keep them) to kill shelters, they are the first ones to be killed for space and are not given time to be networked for rescues to help out.

Thankfully that wasn't the case with these 13 dogs!

People tagged, sent messages, emails asking for help with these 13 dogs who deserved better than to be euthanized in a cold, loud scary shelter. We were able to help 4 of these sweet dogs live to see another day. 🙏

The others were saved by other wonderful rescues. 💞🐾

Unfortunately, with 13 dogs alot of their medical needs were not addressed properly over the years and now we must make sure they get all of their medical needs taken care of.

All 4 dogs will need dentals with multiple tooth extractions, some need to have tumors removed, one will be a palliative, they are all on the skinny side, so good food is a must, 3 needed senior wellness (1 junior) bloodwork ups, nail trims, baths, heartworm test, dewormer, flea and heartworm preventives and all had kennel cough from the shelter so that means a course of antibiotics and steroids to start!

Senior dogs make amazing companions, they are over the puppy stage and are happy to just chill with you and lounge around in a warm place and take leisurely walks.

Helping 3 senior (1 adult) dogs at once is not a easy ask, but we couldn't let these dogs be euthanized because their owner passed away suddenly.

We would greatly appreciate it if you could help and donate towards their vetting needs so we can continue to help dogs like these who need us the most.

Fancy - has been adopted!

Poodle - Female - 52 lbs - 5yrs (approx)

Spayed/Vaccines UTD/Microchipped
Foster Location: Acton, ON

Sponsored by Toba, in honour of Toby and Penny. Every furbaby deserves a loving home and happiness

Fancy is embracing life after spending her life in a puppy mill. She is initially shy of people and can be nervous when directly approached. She will need a gentle patient adopter who will go at her own pace. Once she feels safe, she is a happy, affectionate girl who greets every day with a bouncy excitement.

Smart, treat-motivated, and eager to please, Fancy is a quick learner and continues to gain confidence daily. She currently lives with a dog and looks to her for guidance, especially when meeting new people and in new environments. Fancy would be fine with another dog but would also be happy to get all the attention to herself.. She has a high prey drive and would not do well in a home with cats or other small animals. She sleeps soundly in her crate at night and is calm during car rides. With routine, she has been doing great with house training.

She loves being close to her people and is happiest when she's part of the action. A securely fenced yard where she can run, play, and burn off some of that happy energy would be ideal. She loves her toys and durable toys are best. Because of her size and bouncy excitement, she would be best suited to a home with older children that are calm and gentle.

Fancy would thrive in an active home where she can enjoy daily walks, playtime, and opportunities for mental enrichment. Because she does not do well when left alone for long periods, a home where someone is around most of the day would be ideal.

Fancy is searching for a family willing to give her love and patience and she will bring love and loyalty to her forever home.

ARCHER - ADOPTED

My name is Archer. I’m approximately 9 weeks old. I am a very fun loving boy who is a mix of American Bulldog (my dad was about 100lbs) and Shepherd x Husky (my mom). With my big paws and likely breed mix, I’m expected to grow into a large dog, so I need a family excited and prepared to raise a bigger pup!

I’m a playful, curious little guy who loves exploring and being involved in everything happening around me. Other dogs are my absolute favourite, I spend much of my day wrestling, chasing and learning from my dog friends. I could be very happy with a suitable doggie playmate. I’m wonderful with people; I mostly want to play and be part of the action. The cats in my foster home prefer to avoid us silly puppies, so cats remain mostly untested.

I’m also a vocal boy who already enjoys sharing his opinions! Whether I’m playing or trying to tell you something important, I’m not afraid to use my voice.

My crate training is going extremely well. I sleep through the night (most of the time), keep my crate clean and let my foster know when I need to go outside. My house training is also progressing nicely for my age, and a consistent routine will help me continue succeeding. Reminder though that I am going to be changing routines and losing some siblings so I will need TIME to settle in.

I travel quietly in a secure crate and usually fall asleep during car rides. Squeaky toys and chew bones are my favourites. I’m looking for an active person or family committed to keeping me socialized and providing consistent training, physical exercise and plenty of mental stimulation as I grow.

If you think that you would be the perfect home for me please fill out the application on the website!

Please be sure to read all the details before applying.

An adoption fee applies for me - $500 dollars, I have been vaccinated with my age appropriate vaccinations, been dewormed, been given flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and will come with 30 days of free pet insurance as well as my health certificate.
