The Queens Branch was formed in 1994 and is a foster based branch that offers fostering, adoption and educational programs. We can help.

The Nova Scotia SPCA accepts animals into its care regardless of their age or health. We also follow no-kill principles which means we do not euthanize animals for space. Unexpected life situations happen and the SPCA strives to be approachable, non-judgemental and understanding. On average, healthy and friendly animals are adopted into loving families in less than two weeks! We take in animals by appointment only so please call ahead. You simply have to call and arrange an appointment so the shelter can learn about what is the most suitable type of home for your pet. The appointment also allows the shelter to prepare a cozy space for your pet to make the transition as smooth as possible. We understand how difficult it is to surrender a pet and thank all owners who are able to make the best decision for their pet. Barking news from the chicken coop… we have a winner! 📣 The SPCA weekly 50/50 jackpot reached an egg-cellent $10,135. 🐣 And through the cluck of the draw… Eldon Seaward’s ticket was pecked! 💛

Bea’s Story! ❤️

A lot can change in 18.5 years. And boy, do I have a story to tell!

As a young pup, the world was scary. I was shy, nervous and unsure who to trust. Even someone wearing a hat could make me tremble.

Then, one day, a family walked through the Nova Scotia SPCA doors and chose me.

That one decision changed my life.

More than 15 years later, I've watched a little boy grow into an adult, made countless family memories and become a very loyal shadow to my favourite human, Brian. 🐶

The world has changed so much. Technology advanced, children grew up and families changed.

But one thing stayed the same – I had a family to share it all with. 💙

That's the beauty of adoption. One decision can lead to a lifetime of love and memories.

But there are still animals at the Nova Scotia SPCA waiting for their chance.

For twelve years, a beautiful German Shepherd named Bodj stole hearts everywhere. 🐶 She was a social butterfly and always on duty to care for her family. When Bodj’s owner was diagnosed with ALS, she went above and beyond to provide comfort and support. 💕

Sadly, Bodj made her way to the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈 To make her loyalty and love last forever, Bodj’s family started the Bodj von Grunfeld® scholarship in her memory. Every year, a dedicated student will be awarded $500 towards their animal welfare education. 🐾

After receiving many amazing applications, one student was selected. Drum roll, please….. Congratulations, Erin Beattie! 🎉

Erin is pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree at the Atlantic Veterinary College, UPEI. 💙

Thank you to everyone who applied, shared the scholarship, and is following their heart with a career in animal welfare. 😻

Stay tuned in March 2027 when applications open again! 🥰

When Courta and Cielle visited the Nova Scotia SPCA shelter to bring Luci home, they also fell in love with Winnie. 🥰 It was an easy decision to adopt both bunnies. Luci and Winnie might have had different personalities, but what followed was friendship, daily adventures, plenty of blueberries – and a bond that continues even after one of them has gone. 🫶
