We'd like to take a moment to thank the crews from out of town who have supported Lillooet and neighbouring communities during the Riley Creek wildfire.

West Vancouver Fire Department, Coquitlam Fire Department, Rider Ventures, Delta Wildfire, and the First Nations' Emergency Services Society all sent people our way. They've been working long days in hard conditions building guards and setting up structural protection infrastructure. We are grateful for every one of them.

Thank you as well to the other agencies, contractors, and support crews who stepped in wherever they were needed. A response like this takes far more people than most folks ever see, and every role matters.

To our community, thank you for your patience and your support through all of it. We know it's been difficult but we thank you for your continued vigilance.

Finally, thank you to the BC Wildfire Service for leading this response, for keeping us informed every step of the way, and for the commitment their crews and incident staff continue to show on this fire.

* NOTE * Firm up your dog’s Emergency Contact person!

Bailey and Henry enjoyed a day of frolicking together before they were joined by Cooper and Nugget. The sky this week was thick with smoke, and high temperatures which kept us indoors more than out. The dogs don’t seem to care. They still enjoy just being with their friends, and they’re a great diversion to keep my mind occupied.
My health, this week, has not been its best. Whether it’s due to smoke and stress or Meniere’s is unclear, but I know I’m looking forward to some dog free days.
Again, I encourage everyone who has daycare booked to revisit their emergency contact person. Firm up all their information. Make certain they are ready willing and able to pick up your darling in the event of an emergency. It’s not just for the possibility of an evacuation but also due to my health as well.
I do not want to close my gates. I want to continue to provide safe care while you have to be away. However, I must consider my own health first and I will close my gates, if I need to.
If you have prepaid daycare, and I cancel those days, please know you will certainly be reimbursed.
Here’s a look at last weeks’ smiling and relaxing faces that kept me going.

We are proud to continue supporting wildfire response efforts in British Columbia.

On Monday, July 27, we deployed a Structure Protection Unit and five members to assist with operations at the Riley Creek Fire. Our crew is working alongside other responders to help protect homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure in communities threatened by the wildfire.

This past Sunday, two relief firefighters were deployed to replace members of the original crew, while three members remained on site to continue structure protection operations and support ongoing wildfire response efforts.

We are grateful for the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of our members who are representing our department and community during this challenging wildfire season. We are proud to contribute to the provincial effort to help safeguard communities and support those impacted by wildfires across British Columbia.

I wanted to post a Welcome to August. The current fire conditions kept creeping into my mind, and I couldn’t focus on pawsitive things. I left it a few days. Although the fires are still burning, and we’re headed for some scary days with a return to elevated temps, I decided what I need is to post some of the furry smiles that keep my mind occupied.

So putting the fires on the side burner for the moment…
Here’s a look at how August came in at Royal K9 Korner.
Sweet little Peaches headed home 2 days earlier than expected. Her mom arrived back home and Peaches sensed it! Even though I kept her out of sight from her yard, yup, dogs just KNOW!
Ruby’s mom and dad were under an evac. Order for a few days so she came here to give them some time to focus on keeping things fire safe and give her a change of scenery and fun time.
Bailey joined her for an overnight and then Henry for a day before she headed home.
Bailey’s back keeping Henry company overnight.
This weekend will bring Nugget back for a few days to play with Cooper and possibly the Countess River.
I’ll be looking at a few days off next week and plan to begin some fence painting.
Here’s the Royal monkeys of the August long weekend!
Stay safe and keep pawsitive everyone.

Peaches has been enjoying her time with all the buddies she only ever sees from her porch across the road. She’s played in the front yard and only occasionally glances across the way to see if anyone’s home. She plays alongside the others but at times it seems would prefer to be an only dog, with a ball to fetch. Peaches has one more sleep with us and then she’ll be heading home. I wonder if she’ll look longingly across the road or if she’ll give a mischievous smirk at the others and think, “Ha! I’m home and you’re not!”
Oh Peaches! Its been wonderful to have you in our extended pack.

Yes, it’s still smokey. We’re looking forward to a few days of cooler temps. The wildfires continue to burn and we’re staying on top of all the updates for the fire closest to us, Riley Creek.
Thank you to those who have expressed their concern about our safety. We are totally safe.
Detailed information can be found from the BC Wildfire Service site at https://wildfiresituation.nrs.gov.bc.ca/map
New information is posted daily through the link for ‘Full Details’.
Our hearts go out to those who have been directly affected by the fires in our neighbouring communities.
2026 is another devastating wildfire year.
I’m once again revisiting emergency contact info and being very strict about the availability of that person. If I haven’t spoken to you yet, please be sure to have updated information about your safety person. I will be in contact with you.
Here’s way to many photos at the buddies who keep me going.

We had a weekend of slow easy playdays.
Miss Lilly came for a sleep over and had visitors Cooper and Bailey. They were excited to see each other and went through the regular “Hi, how are ya! I’ve missed you.” mode. However, it’s obvious we’re into our dog days of summer, when the playfulness quickly turns into, “Let’s just chill okay?”
Even a day of playtime with our infrequent visitor, Miss Toba, quickly turned into a day of dogs just enjoying each other’s company. It’s hot and it’s smokey and indoors has become the chosen play/rest area.
River has arrived for her extended summer vacation. Although it’s hot, and we can sure use the doggy pool, I’ve set it aside for a day or so. We have an abundance of wasps around and The Countess is notorious for her ‘vigilance’ in catching bees. Bailey arrived with a healing wasp sting on his eye, and he doesn’t want to share his benadryl experience with his buddies.

This weekend River will be joined by Sweet Peaches, Suzy Q and Sir Cooper. I promise to set the pool out again sporadically for your fun days Countess but you have to leave the bees alone dear!

Here's a look at our hot smokey weekend.

My Just Me ‘n Peaches Day.
I see this little girl nearly every day. She’s usually sitting on her porch across the road watching the activity in our yard. She always wiggles and waggles and whimpers if I open the gate and approach her. She is one of the sweetest little floppy girls I’ve ever known. She doesn’t often need daycare, but when she visits, she makes sure to give me all the love and cuddles we’ve missed. Having a day alone with Peaches is so wonderful. When she cuddles, her entire body goes floppy and she oozes herself into you. She’s exactly like one of those overstuffed teddy bears. Soft and floppy and so comforting! Next week, the little Miss will be here for an extended visit and our alone snuggle time will be limited. She’ll have plenty of buddies to play with, but on this overnight visit she was mine, all mine! Thank you for our day, Peaches sweetie. See you again. Soon!
