We're wrapping up our RVT Month series by getting to know the people behind the scrubs a little better! Last but certainly not least is Caylee, one of our amazing RVTs.

We asked her five very important questions…

1. If you weren't an RVT, what would you be doing?
A zookeeper!

2. What is your most irrational pet peeve at work?
Don't touch my mess — it's mine! 😂 Basically, when people clean up after me before I'm finished with it.

3. If you could have any animal as a pet — no practical considerations allowed — what would you choose?
A whole zoo! 🦁🐒🦓

4. What is your go-to workday snack or drink?
Popcorn! 🍿

5. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Working with this amazing team. ❤️

We may have discovered a theme with our RVTs… apparently several of them would happily trade the clinic for a zoo, and Caylee has simply decided to skip the “one animal” limitation altogether. 😂

🐾 Meet of Vet et Nous | Myriam: Big Hearts, Small Footprints 🐾

Working in a high-volume emergency and specialty hospital comes with the reality of waste. Patient care relies heavily on single-use items, sterile packaging, and substantial resources. And while the scale of waste in clinical settings can feel discouraging, Myriam Doré, a Team Leader and Animal Health Technician (TSA) at Centres Vétérinaires - Laval, Montréal, Rive-Sud, focuses on practical, attainable solutions within the team’s direct control.

Many people look at the climate crisis and think, “I’m just one person, what difference can I make?”

Myriam chose a different answer: start small, right where you stand.

"I think if we just pause and look around us, we’d realize we can all do a little more for the environment," Myriam shares. "Whether at home or at the clinic, we all share an ecological responsibility. People often assume living sustainably is intimidating or complicated, but it really looks harder than it actually is."

Instead of waiting for an overnight revolution, Myriam began weaving gentle, daily habits into the culture of Rive-Sud. One thoughtful choice at a time, she turned small intentions into everyday realities:

♻️ Reclaiming worn blankets and towels that still have plenty of warmth to give.
📦 Sorting and rerouting surplus supplies and pet food directly to local rescue organizations where resources are stretched thin.
👕 Building a reused uniform closet within the hospital so quality scrubs find a second, third, and fourth life instead of ending up in a landfill.

Her team will tell you that Myriam never lectures; she leads by example. Her quiet optimism is infectious, showing everyone around her that eco-conscious care isn't about being perfectly zero-waste; it’s about doing what you can with what you have, every single day.

"Small daily gestures, repeated consistently, create real ripples for our planet and the generations coming after us. Caring for the earth isn't extra work, it's just another way of caring for the animals we love."

We're continuing our RVT Month series by getting to know the people behind the scrubs a little better! Next up is Alison, our Hospital Manager and one of our RVTs.

We asked her five very important questions…

1. If you weren't an RVT, what would you be doing?
Either a kindergarten teacher or a librarian at an elementary school!

2. What is your most irrational pet peeve at work?
When kennels aren't cleaned after a pet goes home and are left for the next day — or for someone else to do. 😆

3. If you could have any animal as a pet — no practical considerations allowed — what would you choose?
An octopus! 🐙 I'd have a massive saltwater enclosure with live coral and all kinds of other creatures too.

4. What is your go-to workday snack or drink?
Granola bars or candy. 😂

5. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
As an RVT, it's comforting pets and being their safe human while they're here. As a Hospital Manager, it's making people feel special and appreciated while they're here. ❤️

Apparently, my dream life involves either teaching kindergarten, shelving books, or maintaining a giant saltwater aquarium… so it's probably for the best that I ended up at a veterinary hospital. 😂🧡

Tomorrow is National Fetch Day!

We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than with a little slow-motion Hammy the Corgi doing what he does best — bringing the ball back for just one more throw.

Whether your dog is a fetch fanatic, a professional ball chaser, or still hasn't quite figured out the whole “bring it back” part, today is a great excuse to grab their favourite toy and get outside for a little playtime!

1. If you weren't an RVT, what would you be doing?
A clinical pathologist!

2. What is your most irrational pet peeve at work?
When people leave dirty pet food bowls in the sink — especially when there's still food left in them! 😂

3. If you could have any animal as a pet — no practical considerations allowed — what would you choose?
A bobcat! 🐾

4. What is your go-to workday snack or drink?
Pepsi!

5. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
When the pets get to go home to their people happy and healthy. ❤️

We think Julie's answers perfectly capture someone who loves the science behind veterinary medicine, has a soft spot for wild cats, and really cares about seeing our patients make it back home where they belong. 🧡

Pet Obesity Awareness Day | October 14

“It’s just a little piece of cheese!” 🧀

We hear this all the time — and while a little treat here and there is absolutely okay, what seems small to us can actually be a pretty big treat for our pets.

For a small dog or cat, that chunk of cheese we think of as “just a bite” can be roughly equivalent to a person eating a cheeseburger or two!

And it’s not just cheese! Table scraps, treats, dental chews and those extra bites throughout the day can add up surprisingly quickly.

Keeping our pets at a healthy weight is about much more than how they look. A healthy body weight can help support mobility, joint health, energy and overall quality of life.

The good news? Treats don't have to disappear! Try breaking treats into smaller pieces, using part of their regular food as rewards, or choosing lower-calorie options.

And if you're not sure whether your pet is at a healthy weight, ask us! We're always happy to help you figure out what a healthy weight looks like for your pet. ❤
