June is — the perfect time to open your heart (and maybe your lap 🐾) to a cat in need!

Every shelter cat has a story, a personality, and so much love to give. From playful kittens to quiet seniors, there’s a feline friend out there waiting for a second chance and a forever family.

When you adopt, you’re not just gaining a pet — you’re saving a life and making room for another animal in need. ❤️

Thinking about adding a cat to your family? Here are a few things to keep in mind:
🐱 Choose a personality that matches your lifestyle
🐱 Give new cats time to adjust to their new home
🐱 Schedule a veterinary check-up soon after adoption
🐱 Provide enrichment like scratching posts, toys, and cozy hiding spots
🐱 Consider adopting bonded pairs or senior cats — they make amazing companions too!

This month, we encourage you to support your local shelters, rescues, and foster programs — whether through adoption, donations, volunteering, or simply sharing adoptable pets online.

Have a rescue cat at home? Share their photo or adoption story in the comments — we’d love to celebrate them with you! 🐾💕

PSA for cat parents: chin scratches are basically a love language. 🧡🐱

And speaking of love, May is a great month to book your cat's annual wellness exam if you haven't already! Cats are pros at hiding when something's off, so regular checkups matter more than most people realize. 🩺

Is your kitty a vet visit champ or a total drama queen about it? Call us if bringing you cat to us causes them stress - we would love to help take the edge off for them to make each visit a purrfect one!

Grass awn season is here — and these little plants can cause BIG problems. 🌾🐾

After hikes, walks through tall grass, or adventures in the river bottom, always check your pets for foxtails/grass awns. These sharp seed heads can attach to fur and work their way into ears, noses, paws, eyes, and even under the skin.

We also commonly see dogs accidentally inhale or swallow them while innocently chewing on grass outdoors. These awns can become lodged in the throat, tonsils, or further down the airway — often requiring sedation and scoping to remove.

Common signs to watch for:
• Sudden sneezing or pawing at the nose
• Gagging, coughing, or difficulty swallowing
• Head shaking or ear pain
• Squinting/red eyes
• Excessive licking between toes
• Swelling, limping, or draining wounds

Unfortunately, these don’t just “work themselves out.” Once inside the body they can continue migrating and often require sedation, scoping, or even surgery to remove.

A quick brush-off and paw check after walks can make a huge difference! If you notice any of these signs after an outdoor adventure, give us a call sooner rather than later. 🩺

Even small weight gains can have a big impact on your pet’s health. Let’s take those extra pounds seriously — because they mean more than you think!

A rule we like to go by is ensure treats do not exceed 10% of their daily calorie allotment. 🥩

Your pet is welcome anytime to pop in and get an updated weight to help keep your pet on track for an ideal body weight.

This week, we’re celebrating two incredibly important members of our team — our amazing Veterinary/Technical Assistants, Emily & Marissa! 🐾💙

Behind every smooth appointment, clean treatment area, stocked shelf, comforted patient, and supported technician or doctor… you’ll find our TAs hard at work.

From helping nervous pets feel safe, assisting with patient care, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, tackling endless laundry, keeping the hospital organized, helping restrain patients, preparing rooms, restocking supplies, and jumping in wherever needed — they truly help keep the entire clinic running day after day.

Their compassion, teamwork, patience, and willingness to help with anything never go unnoticed. Veterinary medicine is a team effort, and Emily & Marissa are such an important part of ours. 🐶🐱✨

Thank you both for everything you do for our patients, clients, and team. We appreciate you more than words can say! 💕

We know this face.
And we know exactly what just happened in that garden 😐

Spring yards are full of things pets love to “sample,” but not everything growing out there is harmless. Tomato plants (especially the leaves and stems), spring bulbs like tulips and daffodils, and even things like mulch, pinecones, or compost can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and a pretty rough day.

Natural doesn’t always mean safe—and unfortunately, curiosity tends to win.

If your pet has been helping themselves to your garden, keep an eye out for any changes and give us a call if something seems off. We promise… you won’t be the first to say, “I think they ate something outside.” 😅
