🇨🇦 Canada Day Dog Safety Reminder 🐾

Canada Day is full of fun, but for many dogs it can also be one of the most stressful days of the year. Keep your dog's safety and well-being in mind while celebrating.

☀️ Beat the Heat

• Exercise your dog early in the morning or later in the evening.
• Always provide access to fresh water and shade.
• Avoid hot pavement—it can burn your dog's paws.
• Never leave your dog in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
• Watch for signs of heat stress such as excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse.

🎆 Fireworks

• Keep your dog indoors before the fireworks begin.
• Create a quiet, safe space with familiar bedding, toys, or calming music.
• Close windows and curtains to reduce noise and flashes.
• Ensure your dog's collar, ID tags, and microchip information are up to date.

👥 Crowds & Celebrations

• Not every dog enjoys parades, festivals, patios, or large gatherings.
• If your dog is nervous, anxious, or easily overwhelmed, they'll likely be happier at home.
• Avoid forcing greetings with unfamiliar people or dogs.

⚠️ Reactive Dogs

• Dogs who are reactive to people or other dogs should not be brought into crowded events.
• Set your dog up for success by avoiding situations that are beyond their current skill level.
• Remember, management is responsible ownership—not failure.
• Your dog's job is not to "get over it" in the middle of a busy celebration.

❤️ Celebrate Responsibly

The best Canada Day is one where everyone gets home safely—including our four-legged family members. A little planning goes a long way in making the day enjoyable for both you and your dog.

Happy Canada Day from everyone at Fetch and Play! 🇨🇦🐾

📌 WELCOME TO FETCH AND PLAY – HOW OUR DAYS WORK 🐶🎾

At Fetch and Play, we believe ALL of our visitors deserve to have an amazing day. Because of that, our schedule is thoughtfully designed around energy levels, confidence, size, and social needs.
If you’re enquiring about specific days and we’re unable to accommodate your request, it’s almost always because we’re protecting the experience of everyone involved 😁

Here’s a breakdown of what each day looks like:

🐾 MONDAYS – CALM & CONFIDENT BUILDERS

Mondays are all about lower-energy pups who prefer a slower pace and a less chaotic environment.
• Ideal for dogs who don’t enjoy high stimulation
• Perfect for our rehabilitation pups, who need time and space to build confidence at their pace
• A wonderful day for dogs 3 pounds to 300 pounds

🔥 TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY – LET THE CHAOS BEGIN 😂

These days are designed for our high-energy, confident pups who thrive in active, busy playgroups.
• Lots of play, movement, and learning
• Focus on teaching social skills like boundaries, space, and communication
• Great for pups of all sizes, as long as they can safely participate in these energetic groups

🐕 FRIDAYS – SMALL DOG FOCUS (WITH A FEW BIG FRIENDS)

Fridays are predominantly for our little guys, with a handful of calm, tolerant big dogs mixed in.
• Helps small pups learn that not every big dog wants to eat them 😉
• Energy is typically mid to high, but the group is incredibly respectful
• Works beautifully for slightly nervous small pups as the group has grown organically and knows how to give space
• If a new pup finds the group energy overwhelming, we adjust the group to remove that initial “wall of energy”
• Our kids (ages 6 & 12) are often in on Fridays to play with and engage your pups 🐾💛

📝 EVALUATIONS

• Evaluations are typically completed on Mondays and Fridays
• Intake forms and evaluations help us place pups—especially those in our Puppy Social Prep Program—on the best possible day for their needs

Our goal is simple: happy dogs, safe play, and positive experiences for everyone who walks through our doors.

Thank you for trusting us with your pups—we take that responsibility seriously 💕🐶

January was a blast and the weather really helped to give all our pooches some extra opportunity to stretch their legs.
