We love when owners share their pets back home after being in hospital 💕

Mittens was with us for a couple days following Lily exposure. Even very small exposures can be life-threatening for cats. We have seen a few cases like Mittens recently, and we want to help keep your pets safe!

🐾Lilies (including tiger lilies, oriental lilies, Easter lilies, and day lilies) can cause severe acute kidney failure in cats. Exposure can happen from:
• Chewing plant material
• Contact with pollen on fur, then grooming
• Drinking water from a vase
• Even small amounts of pollen in the environment

🐾One of the scariest parts of lily toxicity is that cats can initially appear fairly normal, and bloodwork changes may not occur for 24–48 hours after exposure. Early treatment and IV fluids are critical and can truly save lives!

Thankfully, Mittens’ kidney values remained stable during hospitalization, he continued eating well, and he was able to receive preventative treatment and close monitoring after his owners acted quickly. 💜 Now he's back to his full time job ☀😎

❓Did you know ❓

CPR certification is standard in human medicine, but it is not currently mandatory in Veterinary Medicine?

We always want to provide the highest standard of care for your pets; especially when every second counts!

That's why our veterinary team has completed the Recover CPR Certification courses- the gold standard in veterinary CPR training. Through this certification, our staff has been trained in the latest veterinary CPR techniques, emergency response protocols, and lifesaving skills using the most current guidelines available.

Tech Maylee and Dr. Neetesh were in Saskatchewan this past weekend getting their certifications! We are proud to invest in continued learning so we can provide the best possible care for your pets.

🐾 Brave Pet of the Month: Lilly 🐾

After being struck by a vehicle, Lilly was rushed to our hospital unable to use her hind legs and suffering from multiple painful wounds. Initial diagnostics revealed a traumatic right hip dislocation, and despite the severity of her injuries, Lilly faced every challenge ahead with remarkable strength.

Our team immediately began intensive pain management, stabilization, wound care, and advanced diagnostics. Lilly underwent anesthesia for a successful closed reduction of her dislocated hip and placement of an Ehmer sling to help stabilize the joint. Throughout her stay, she required constant nursing care, IV fluids, strong pain medications, wound management, urinary catheter care, bandage changes, neurological monitoring, and around-the-clock support from our doctors and technicians.

As the days progressed, Lilly’s case became even more complex. Neurological deficits affecting her left hind limb and bladder function continued to evolve, and concerns grew regarding spinal trauma and a suspected L7 vertebral fracture. There were difficult conversations about prognosis, potential long-term nerve damage, advanced surgical referral, and quality of life.

Despite the pain and uncertainty, Lilly continued showing small moments of determination that kept everyone rooting for her. She was eating treats for her family, showing reflex improvement in her left leg, vocalizing for attention, perking her ears up for every pet, and staying bright and interactive with the staff caring for her each day. Our team celebrated every tiny victory alongside her devoted family.

Lilly wheeled out of here with her family prepared for a long road of recovery ahead.

Lilly, your strength, resilience, and happiest smile touched every member of our hospital. Thank you to Brianna and family for their unwavering love and dedication to her care throughout this emotional journey.

You are one brave girl, Lilly. 💙🐾

🐾 Brave Pet of the Month: Mieka 🐾

We have known Mieka since she was just a puppy. She has a known history of kidney disease and previous pancreatitis. When she was admitted this month, she wasn’t herself; vomiting, not eating, and clearly uncomfortable. Early diagnostics confirmed another episode of pancreatitis, along with worsening kidney values. Our team worked to stabilize her, providing IV fluids, advanced pain control, anti-nausea medications, and constant monitoring.

🐾As the days went on, Mieka’s case became more complex. Her kidney disease progressed, she developed a urinary tract infection, high blood pressure, and fluid accumulation in her chest that required intervention to keep her comfortable. She needed a feeding tube for nutritional support and procedures to remove fluid so she could breathe easier. Mieka remained the absolute bravest girl. She let us poke and prod and test and do her hair all while melting us with her forever puppy eyes 🥺

Every small change mattered, and her care plan evolved daily based on how she responded. Mieka’s family worked closely with our team through difficult decisions, always advocating for her comfort and quality of life. Their trust, communication, and devotion to Mieka played such a huge role in guiding her care 💕

🐾We started to see small but meaningful improvements. She would lift her head to greet us. Her protein levels stabilized, her comfort improved, and her energy started to return. While her kidney disease remains something she will continue to manage, she reached a point where she was stable enough to go home and back to the people who love her most. Mom reports she's running around like a puppy at home!

This is why we do what we do. We are so proud of you, Mieka! 🐶💙 Kristie Clewes

Today is World Veterinary Day 🐾

This year’s theme, “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health,” highlights the vital role vets play not just in caring for animals, but in protecting public health, food safety, and the wellbeing of our communities from farm to family homes.

A huge shoutout to our own hospital Veterinarians. They show up every day with compassion, skill, and heart for every patient that walks through our doors. They stay up late, come in early, stop for caffeine, and do it all again.💕

This week, we’re celebrating our veterinary receptionists who keep the hospital running. From the moment you walk through our doors, they’re the friendly faces, steady voices, and helping hands guiding it all.

They juggle calls, coordinate schedules, answer all the “this might sound silly…” questions, remember everything and somehow make it all look seamless. Their kindness, patience, and dedication make this team so special; we truly couldn’t do any of this without them!

Thank you for everything you do, every single day. ❤️
