We love success stories - if you have ever adopted from Greta's Roost, we would love to get an update and cute photos of your bird! ⭐

The pineapple green cheeked conure on the left is Bug, who we found outside back in July this year. After a month of searching for his owner, no one ever claimed him - so we took him to our avian vet, and up for adoption. A wonderful family applied for him, wanting a friend for their conure, but not wanting to force their friendship.

Here is an update months later - these two are the bestest of friends and we are so happy that we helped them find each other! 🫶

Meet one of our permanent fosters, Merlin! ❤ This red lored amazon is the sweetest old man and sure does love his balsa 😅

Merlin is one of our 4 permanent fosters who we care for at the Roost - he is approximately 35+ years old and has been diagnosed with arthritis, heart arrhythmia, atherosclerosis and has an old leg injury as well. He is currently living his best life, watching the days go by, destroying all the balsa that he is provided 😆

If you would like to provide some more balsa toys for Merlin, we have a pinned poster on our page for donations (a link can also be found in our bio!) 🫶 Greta’s Roost is a foster based parrot rescue located in Southern Alberta, Canada. Help us help the birds! ⭐

We now have a way to make donating easier! You can scan on the QR code below, or through this link to donate: https://square.link/u/xXb0ibbG (you can also click on the link in our bio to go to our donation page!)

It will give you the option to donate any amount - as even a dollar helps, especially with the amount birds in our care, the medications we have to pay for per bird, the expensive vet bills, and also the expenses that come with cages, replenishing toys, and so much more 💚

You will have the option to donate one time, or to provide a monthly donation! If you would like to sponsor any of our medically fragile birds, we would truly appreciate your sponsorship and support. Once again, anything helps and we are forever grateful for your support.

Diesel the Military Macaw had his vet checkup last week! This poor boy has arthritis in his knees and a possible spinal injury from his past - he was rescued from a breeding ring where he was kept in a very small cage, unable to move much and spread his wings 🥲 He is so young (only 10 years old) and it pains us to see the long-term impact from years of abuse and neglect.

He is currently taking gabapentin and meloxicam (pain medications) on a daily basis. He needs time to come out of his shell, as he is quite hand and people shy. He is getting better and comes out of his cage daily, willingly stepping up onto a perch, and will only open up even more with time and patience! 💚

If you are interested in providing a loving, stress-free home for Diesel, please fill out an adoption application - he is a medical case and will have a special adoption fee for the right home.

If you would like to help with his medical expenses, including his medications, we take any donations to our e-transfer/Paypal [email protected] 🌱

Thank you to everyone who visited our table at the Calgary Parrot Palooza this year! We had some very good conversations, lots of curiosity, and families who had been watching our certain birds online came to visit them in person, finalizing an adoption!

So... let's give a wonderful congratulations to Nelson and Beau! Their new families took them home on Wednesday and they have both been settling in quite well 🥹 We are so incredibly happy for these two!
