We are receiving a lot of requests and inquiries from new puppy parents!! It’s such a wonderful time in a pup parent’s life but also can be stressful. We want to let you know we are here to support you!!
🤍 Your puppy’s first groom should be scheduled at 12-16 weeks and after their second round of vaccinations. There is some confusion here, TWO rounds of shots is sufficient and perfect timing for their first groom.
🤍 Preparing for your puppy’s first groom is multifaceted. The main area of preparation is to brush at home, practice handling, have their coat be brushed out, have the proper tools at home, choose a groomer that you trust and we’ll work with you once we meet your puppy.
🤍 The first groom all we need is your puppy walking in on a leash! We require vet information and vaccination records prior to starting the groom. And do not feel the need to bring their overnight bag. 😆
🤍 The first grooming experience is all about have a good experience. We go slow and focus on handling, positioning and the desensitizing them to the equipment. Typically we start with a puppy which is a modified full groom. We are not looking for perfection but for your puppy to be comfortable!
🤍 Depending on your puppy’s coat type (I.e curly, short, long double coat) will make a difference in the right tools. Call your groomer before making purchases to ask for advice. Usually you will only need 3 tools to get going so make these decisions based on their coat type thoughtfully!!
🤍 Going forward forward your puppy will ideally visit a professional groomer every 6-8 weeks and will be bathed once in between depending on coat type. Brushing should be a daily/every few day occurrence, teeth brushing daily and nail trims as frequent as 3/4 weeks .
Can’t wait to meet more of your sweet puppies!!
