This week at Critter Care… we have squirrels having fun, and then some new arrivals, including a skunk, and maybe the cutest baby otter you’ve ever seen. They end up in the pool for a swimming lesson. Did you know that we have to teach them to swim?

A heartfelt thank you to Unipharm Wholesale Drugs Limited for their generous $2,500 donation to name Critter Care’s first bear cub of the year.

Thanks to their kindness, the little Maple Ridge bear cub brought to us on April 15 now has a name: Radar.

We are so grateful for Unipharm’s support and for the care they’ve helped provide as Radar grows stronger and continues his journey toward returning to the wild.

Turtle* the grey squirrel came into care after being orphaned and falling from his nest. Alone, severely dehydrated, and struggling to survive, he was in a fragile state when he first arrived.

With careful rehydration therapy and regular milk feedings, Turtle slowly regained his strength. Before long, his little personality started to shine through. He loved his milk and eagerly drank at every feeding. After a week of syringe feeding, he was strong enough to drink from a dish and begin exploring solid foods.

As Turtle grew stronger, he moved into a large outdoor enclosure where he spent his days climbing, exploring, and enjoying enrichment. His favourite treat was corn, which he went absolutely nuts for.

Soon, Turtle transformed from a weak, dehydrated baby into a healthy, energetic young squirrel ready for life in the wild. Once he was strong and independent enough, he was released right where he belonged.
