There is a no kill policy at C.A.R.E.S., therefore any animals that are not adopted will be able to live the rest of their natural lives at the shelter. A SAFE AND CARING HOME - THE BASIS OF A GOOD LIFE

:

In February of 1998, C.A.R.E.S. Cats that are rescued, receive quality food, shelter and veterinary care and many of those cats are then taken to the PetSmart adoption centre in the Langley store. From February 1998 to December 2011, we have adopted out over 5400 cats from that location. As a small, non-profit organization we rely on our community of volunteers to help us keep the shelter clean and the cats well loved. Our volunteers assist with adoptions at PetSmart as well as cleaning, caring for the cats, fostering cats and kittens and generally providing love and protection for abused, injured, hungry, lost and abandoned animals. is funded entirely through memberships, adoption fees, fundraising events and the generous tax-deductible donations of caring individuals and corporations. is a non-profit Society and a registered Charity. All donations over $10 receive a tax receipt. If you can find it in your heart to help, please call 604.532.5632, e-mail to [email protected] or go to our website for more information. 🐱💕 Happy Hug Your Cat Day! 💕🐱

Apparently today is the official day to hug your cat...

As if cat people needed a reminder! 😹
Let's be honest:
✔️ We hug our cats every day.
✔️ We kiss their little heads every day.
✔️ We tell them they're the most beautiful creature on Earth every day.
✔️ We take 473 photos of them every day.

The real question is: will YOUR cat allow the hug? 🤔

Some cats will happily snuggle into your arms. Others will immediately transform into a furry escape artist and file a formal complaint with management.

Today, give your feline friend an extra cuddle (if they'll permit it), a few treats, and tell them how much they mean to you. ❤️

Drop a photo of your cat in the comments💖🐈

Meet Pepper - a handsome young tabby with playful energy and a curious spirit. At only 10 months old, Pepper is still learning that people can be trusted, and while he likes to take things at his own pace, there are already signs of the sweet cat underneath.

One of Pepper’s favourite things? Playtime! Bring out a string toy and he comes alive. He is energetic, engaged, and loves interactive play. He also has a soft spot for the “petting stick,” happily rubbing against it and showing that he wants connection and is beginning to build confidence.

Pepper may take a little time to settle in and get to know new people. Right now, he prefers to set the pace and appreciates patience and understanding while he learns to feel safe. Pepper also seems comfortable around other cats.

We think watching Pepper grow and gain confidence in a loving home will be incredibly rewarding.

Could you be the person who helps Pepper discover what a forever home feels like?

We’re running low on canned wet food again, and are hoping you can help...We can go through over 100 cans a day here at the shelter depending how many cats are in our care. 💖

Fun fact: Wet food isn’t just tasty — it’s super beneficial for cats!
Cats naturally have a low thirst drive, so wet food helps keep them hydrated, supports kidney and urinary health, and provides the moisture they don’t always drink on their own. It’s especially important for seniors, shy cats, and cats under stress.
Also Churus- they are a huge tool for us when working with scared and semi feral cats! 🐈

Anything purchased from our Amazon Wishlist ships directly to the shelter — easy and impactful! (Amazon’s selection can be limited, but we’ve added everything we could find.)

https://www.amazon.ca/hz/wishlist/ls/QUFMLY0UABHE?ref_=wl_share

✨ Donations of any brand of wet food or Churus dropped off at the shelter are always appreciated!
If you’re able to help with some food or treats, we — and our kitties — would be so grateful.
Thank you from the C.A.R.E.S. Team and all the whiskered faces you support! 🐱💛

Meet Riff … a ridiculously handsome, goofy young guy with a huge personality and so much potential. 💙

Riff is one of those cats you don’t forget. He’s funny, curious, playful, and loves being involved in whatever is going on around him. He can be social and affectionate, happily coming over for attention, visits, and interaction. Underneath it all, there is clearly a cat who wants connection.

Sadly, we don’t know much about Riff’s past, but it’s obvious that somewhere along the way trust became difficult for him. Because of this, he can become overstimulated and reactive at times, and he may bite, usually legs, and sometimes without much warning. Shelter life can also be very overwhelming for cats like Riff, and while he has already calmed down quite a bit since arriving, the busy environment still makes it hard for him to fully relax and feel secure.

What we have learned is that Riff responds incredibly well to patience, calm energy, and understanding. He seems especially comfortable around men and is noticeably more relaxed and less reactive with them. He is also currently on a daily herbal calming supplement, and we are already seeing positive changes in his behavior and confidence.

Riff isn’t a starter cat, and he will need a cat-savvy adopter who understands feline body language and is willing to work with him at his pace. But we truly believe the right person could completely change this boy’s life. Once given stability, routine, and a calm home environment, we think Riff will continue making huge strides.
He deserves more than shelter life. He deserves a chance to feel safe, understood, and loved for exactly who he is.

Sometimes the cats who need the most understanding end up forming the deepest bonds. ❤️

If you think you might be the right match for Riff, please email us at [email protected] to learn more or arrange a meet-and-greet.

Meet Luna - a beautiful 10 month old cream and smoke Siamese with striking looks and a gentle spirit that is still learning that the world can be a safe place.🥰

Luna came to us from a hoarding situation and arrived frightened and in need of socialization. Life has not always been easy for this young girl, so she is still learning to trust people and build confidence at her own pace.

One thing that quickly brings out Luna’s playful side? Toys! While she can be cautious around people, bring out a toy and her personality begins to shine. Play helps her forget her worries and gives a glimpse of the curious and fun-loving cat underneath.

Luna prefers slow movements and a calm approach while she gets to know you. Right now, she is not comfortable with petting and likes to set the pace for interactions.
When visitors arrive, she often chooses a hiding place where she feels safe. With patience, understanding, and time, we believe Luna will continue making progress and growing in confidence.

Watching Luna learn to trust and blossom in a loving home could be incredibly rewarding for someone willing to let her move at her own speed.
Luna is spayed, fully vaccinated, dewormed, has received parasite prevention, and has had her health checks completed, she is ready for her next chapter.

No dogs or small kids will be best for Luna, could you be the person who helps Luna discover what it feels like to truly feel safe and at home?
please email us at [email protected]💖🐈🥰

Black cats are some of the most overlooked cats in shelters, and right now C.A.R.E.S. has many beautiful black cats waiting for homes. 🖤

For years, black cats have been affected by old myths and superstitions that simply are not true. Sadly, because of this, they are often adopted more slowly than other cats and can spend much longer waiting for families to notice them.

But anyone who has loved a black cat knows how special they are!

Black cats are affectionate, loyal, playful, loving, and absolutely full of personality. They photograph beautifully, have stunning expressive eyes, and somehow always seem to bring a calm and comforting presence into a home. ❤️

At this point, we have so many black cats at the shelter that in photos we honestly can’t tell some of them apart anymore. 🐈‍⬛😂 Some of these pictures may even look like (or be) the same cat! Haha

But in person? Their personalities absolutely shine. Every single one is unique, loving, and deserving of a family to call their own.

If you’ve ever considered adopting, we would love for you to come meet our amazing black cats and see their personalities for yourself. You may just meet your perfect companion. 🐾

To book an appointment to visit the shelter and meet the cats currently available for adoption, please email [email protected]

Please check out our website for some of the black cats we can tell apart 😃
