🐾 Norwegian Elkhounds, explained simply
These dogs are naturally clean. Their thick double coat repels dirt and helps prevent that “dog smell” most people expect.
But here’s the catch
Bathing too often can actually dry out their skin and make odor worse, especially after rain or snow.
What actually works best:
• Brush regularly (3–5x per week)
• Bathe only a few times per year
• Focus on removing loose undercoat
• Use gentle, between-bath freshening when needed
Healthy coat = less odor, not more baths
If you have an Elkhound, you’ve probably noticed… they really do take care of themselves 🐺
