Ryan will be looking for a companion/light leadline riding home. He's in his twenties (may 2003 baby), barefoot and usual arthritis and old man joints but he's still serviceable and lots of life left in him. He loves to be brushed and spoiled with cookies. He's a good boy, just sensitive and he takes a gentle hand only. He is smart and sassy and he doesn't tolerate abruptness or heavy handed people. Good luck catching him if you show up in a bad mood, this boy reads energy a mile away. He would thrive in a Horse Therapy or Energy Healing type situation. He has done ground only equine therapy for several children and some adults with special needs. He is basically a giant dog and will lick you all over when he's getting loved on and brushed.
* He would be great as a companion horse, ground only therapy horse, light driving, oversized dog you want to take for walks or learn liberty horsemanship with etc. He would also be great in a therapy horse program. He thrives with attention.
He is kid safe and other animal tolerant (minus really pushy or barky dogs, he will threaten to kick dogs that get too bold but has never landed a hoof just postured with a raised leg to say get lost!)
He was road safe, mountain safe, bridge safe and trail ride safe when he retired. I rode him often ba****ck in a halter at his prime. He frequently ponied another horse down Dewdney from 246th to our summer pasture in Webster's Corners by Allco Park.
Ridden through Garibaldi high school and Blue Mountain elementary during school hours for kids to pet. Tied at Tim Hortons and ridden roadside while I drank my coffee. Opened gates off his back easily, messed around with pool noodles, tarps and all kinds of equipment, machinery, loud cars and motorcycles often.
He would need to be brought slowly and sensibly back to work (over the course of a few months) if anyone planned on riding him, including shoes and/or boots and probably some light maintenance in the form of supplements or meds to keep him comfy. He LOVED bushwhacking on trails and I could see him being a light pack horse for someone recreationally.
