Good morning and happy Sunday 🌸

Let’s take a second to talk Guinea pigs! One of the small animals that I don’t see often but when I do I get excited because look at how this this small 5 month old Guinea pig is!

Ive been working with guinea pigs and rabbits for about 10 years now!

Guinea pigs definitely don’t need regular grooming however they do need regular nail trims. Much like rabbit nails, they have thin nails that if left unclipped, they can do cross overs and cause pain in the joints and limbs. A cross over is my own term where the nails cross over each other.

How often should you get your guinea pigs nails done? That varies! Most often they aren’t heavy enough to do some scratching to shave down there own nails so it comes down too owners preference on how short you want them!

I usually recommend holding them to begin with and just like a puppy, come in often just to remove the tips and to have your guinea pig used to the process. After that, usually in between 4-8 weeks sometimes longer would be the time frame to get the nails done!

I’m always happy to receive photos and I can tell you if they need to be done or not!
