A heads up for our Clients and all pet owners in Kitimat. We have had 8 calls in the past two days for coughing dogs. Canine kennel cough is the culprit! Please keep your pets away from dog parks and areas where unvaccinated dogs may be. The Bordetella vaccine can be boostered every 6 months.

We're excited to start planning our upcoming fall and winter training classes, and we'd love your feedback! This short survey will help us better understand which classes, workshops, and training opportunities you're most interested in, as well as gather general information to help us build our upcoming schedule.

Group Classes are baaaaaaaaack 📣🙌🏻

We’ll be kicking things off with an Intro To Disc Dog Group Class! Whether you’re looking to improve your fetch game for more backyard fun or getting more involved with our growing disc dog community, this class will have a little of something for everyone!

Does fetch with your dog look a lot more like keep away? I’ll help give you the tools to create a more fun and reliable fetch game!

Can’t throw a disc to save your life? I’ll let you in on a little secret — we all have bad throws sometimes in the beginning! I can help teach you the basics to have a safe and reliable throw.

Don’t have dog-safe discs? Don’t worry! I have quite a few options for dogs of all sizes. I’m more than happy to lend out, so you can see if this sport is right for you and your dog!

Don’t want to compete? That’s okay! Many people participate just for fun, enrichment, and quality time with their dog!

Your dog gets distracted or is over the top excited? This class is designed to help improve engagement, focus and channeling your dog’s energy into a productive, fun time for everyone!

‼️ Important Update ‼️

We're going to be a little busy around here at Skookum Pup this summer... Mok is expecting! 🍼🐶

We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Mok's puppies within the next week or so, and while we're incredibly excited, it also means our schedule will be a little different for the next couple months.

Skookum Pup will be operating on a reduced schedule through the summer as Mok settles into motherhood and her puppies receive the care, socialization, and early development they need to become confident, well-rounded dogs, and future star students. ✨

Here's what that means for our training services:

🐾 All current appointments will continue as planned.

🐾 New 1:1 training bookings will reopen in July.

🐾 Group classes will return later this summer.

🐾 Boarding services will be closed for the summer.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this exciting new chapter.

Until then, we're taking bets on how many puppies Mok is hiding in there. 👀

A Member Spotlight from our local dog club! I always recommend my clients check it out and get involved. It’s a great way to work with your dog(s) in a variety of environments and/or sports and generally build better relationships with your dogs! If you haven’t already, I highly recommend checking out Kitimat Working Dog Society!

✨ MEMBER SPOTLIGHT ✨

We’re excited to try something new by shining a spotlight on some of the incredible dogs within our club. Each of these dogs has a unique story, and through them we want to share how dog sports have helped build confidence, strengthen bonds, and bring out the very best in both dog and handler.

Meet Franny! Otherwise known as: Francine, or Fran Fran.

"Franny was always a nervous dog. We got her during COVID and, at the time, didn’t fully understand what her breed needed in order to truly thrive. By the time she turned two, we had put in a lot of training to manage the behaviour challenges she was having. While she was doing better, we realized we were only managing her behaviour—not helping her become the confident, fulfilled dog she could be.
Everything changed after we moved to Kitimat. That’s when we were introduced to the world of dog sports, opening up a whole new experience for both us and Franny. We explored a variety of activities we thought she might enjoy, including disc, agility, PSA, IGP, scent work (C-WAGS and CDSA), man tracking, rally-o, and flyball. We also participated in pack walks and classes with local trainers.
Through all of this, Franny’s confidence skyrocketed. She became a more balanced dog—her fence fighting stopped, she gained confidence getting in and out of vehicles, and she genuinely looked forward to training and classes.
The life we now have with a high-drive dog is something we never imagined possible for her. Dog sports have given Franny a purpose and a healthy outlet for the natural instincts that are inherent to her breed. I can’t recommend it enough—try different sports and find what both you and your dog love. It was truly life-changing for us."
