We had the absolute pleasure of neutering Griffin yesterday. Griffin has been trained with a basket muzzle so that he can feel more secure while being handled by strangers. Although you wouldn't think he was around strangers by how quickly he accepted the staff. We even had the surprise of seeing him climbing on to their laps during his recovery.
Basket muzzles create a lot of stigma that the dog wearing the muzzle is inherently aggressive which is not always the case. They could be wearing the muzzle to keep them from eating something out on walks they shouldn't, or as a precaution with mildly reactive dogs in public. Training your dog to accept wearing a basket muzzle can also make it less stressful if they ever need to wear one at a vet appointment where they may be painful or scared. Now a days there are many different options for custom basket muzzles to help reduce some of the fear associated by the look of basket muzzles.
Griffin was exceptionally well behaved and showed that he has had some significant training and work done behind the scenes to help with his confidence. If you are looking for a large lad to coexist, go for hikes and are familiar with the breed reach out to Pawsitively Furever to see if you are a match!
**Please note Griffin approached and initiated the close contact on his own terms for the photo. Our staff do the absolute best to tailor our care plans to suit each individual patient's needs. **
