Regardless of the tool that you use to walk your dog, it's still super important that you pay attention.

Stop walking when they start pulling.

Let them sniff!!

Let them meander and wander wherever it's safe for them to go!

I stand by my thoughts on retractable leashes being miserable communication tools but I do find it useful in being able to use it just one handed, which is exactly what I will need post surgery. 🤣

If your dog has triggers that you've identified....stop walking past them.

I promise you, you and your dog will be happier for it!!!

The easiest way that you can get your dog to stop pulling on the leash, it's just to stop pulling on them

If your dog is pulling, and I mean leaning in, buckling down, full on pulling you forward, it's because they have to. Because as they're moving forward, and perhaps too quickly for us, we think they're pulling, so we start pulling on the leash as well!

So if your dog is just walking quickly, and you feel like they're pulling, stop walking. Wait for them to stop moving fully and completely. And then move forward again..

When we pull on the leash back towards us they have to pull in the opposite direction. But if we just stop walking, they'll also stop walking, and therefore, stop pulling on you..

So just stop. Stop walking and wait for them to stop moving. And then release them with an "ok" and keep moving forward.

Figuring out if your dog is in pain or feeling any discomfort is crucial when trying to figure out why they're doing what they're doing.

We can help them just by watching, taking note of their behavior in different situations and environments, getting a baseline, and then noticing when anything changes.

If you have any questions, please do feel free to reach out and remember

Let them do doggy things!! 😁

Being curious leads to all kinds of wonderful things! I would encourage you to not only be curious about your dog, but watch how they show their curiosity toward you!

Once you starting noticing all the good s**t your dog does, you'll be shocked at just how many good things they do!! We usually focus on what we want to change, stop or fix but....

Once you see it, not only can you not unsee it .....you'll also start noticing good stuff everywhere!!!
