Did you know … In Ontario, there is a shortage of Veterinarians. This shortage has led to both the absence of care (where overwhelmed practices are not able to take on new patients), or significant delays in obtaining regular veterinary care (either long waits at emergency hospitals, or prolonged wait times to be scheduled in at a general practice).
At our practice, we pride ourselves on providing a team-based approach to healthcare. In this model, we are elevating our Registered Veterinary Technicians to utilize their skillset, and actively participate in wellness care for our patients. This collaborative method helps optimize appointment times, ensuring your pet gets the care they need when they need it.
Meet Faith & Kelsey, our practice’s Registered Veterinary Technician Practitioners! They have completed focused, intensive training to enhance their current knowledge and skill base, so that they may take on a new role as an RVT Practitioners. Appointments with RVT-Practitioners are 45 minutes long, so that you are not rushed and have an opportunity to ask as many questions as you might have during your pet’s annual examination.
● When you bring your pet in for regular vaccinations, wellness examinations, and consultations you will be seeing an RVT Practitioner. When the discussion and physical examination are complete and your questions are answered, your pet will receive their appropriate vaccination and dewormer(s) based on the protocol determined by Dr. Martin and delivered by your RVT Practitioner. RVT Practitioners work under the delegation and supervision of Dr. Martin. If there is a concern or abnormality noted by the RVT Practitioner, they will follow appropriate protocols and either offer solutions based on written recommendations within the practice, or recommend further assessment by Dr. Martin.
● By having RVT Practitioners manage and care for wellness appointments, this allows the doctor to see more urgent cases: patients that require surgery, a diagnostic work-up, or require a prescription or treatment protocol. This provides high level veterinary care for your patient for all stages of their lives and as a team, we can meet the needs of your animals when they are well and when they are in need of additional care.
● We continue to advocate for patient care, client service and professional wellness within the industry of Veterinary Medicine. We are so excited to be offering a high level of care for you and for the animals you entrust to us.
