Balance love with structure!!! Part 1
Prepare your home and yourself,
You are bringing your rescue home and excitement is building up in your body. This same excitement is building up in this rescued dog's body as well.
You let the dog roam free. The dogs nose is their dopamine entering one room after another and becoming more and more excited. You , in the meantime are talking 10 miles a minute trying to calm this dog down.
Let's back up before opening the front door. Before bringing the dog home, close most of the doors in the house. This starts to create a calmer atmosphere which the dog can appreciate.
To make things even easier for the dog is to calm yourself down by taking deep breaths often before bringing the dog into the house continue breathing slowly while trying to talk less. With this approach, the dog will as well gradually calm down.
The dog already feels love from you way before it enters the home and by bringing calm into the house is the first indication to the dog that structure creates guidance towards trust. Happy home coming to the dog and person/people!!!
More tips are welcome:)
