Today is National Rescue Dog Day- This year I thought I would share an amazing story of how Rocky, a 7-year-old Shepard Mix, who was rescued off the streets, saved his parents lives in the most interesting way.
(This story was approved for me to share by Rocky's mum)
On March 27th, 2026, Rocky reminded us that heroes don’t always wear capes — sometimes they have four paws.

My husband and I had stayed up way past our usual bedtime (9:30 PM… we’re wild, I know). A few minutes after finally crawling into bed, we were jolted awake by the sound of our eldest dog, Rocky, peeing on the living room floor.
Now, Rocky is currently on steroids and had just had a dosage increase, so while we were definitely annoyed at first, we figured the poor guy simply couldn’t hold it. We dragged ourselves out of bed, half asleep, to clean up the mess.
But then we smelled it.
Smoke.
A second later, we heard the sharp snapping and crackling of live electrical wires arcing beneath the floor.
As it turns out, Rocky had peed directly above a spot where old wiring under our living room floor was sparking and overheating.
Our house was built in the 1960s, and there’s a tiny hole in the floor where an old cable must have once run. Somehow, Rocky must have seen, smelled, or sensed something dangerous coming from underneath.
Maybe he was trying to put out a fire before it started.
Or maybe he knew the fastest way to get two sleepy humans out of bed was to make us mad enough to investigate.
Either way, our little street dog likely saved our lives last night.
It feels like Rocky was thanking us for rescuing him all those years ago… by rescuing us right back.
Our little angel truly is a hero. ❤️

If you have rescued a pup, thank you. You never know how they may repay you one day for giving them a second chance to love.
Do me a favor and drop a picture of your rescue babies down in the comments!
