This is a foster situation right now... 2, 3-4 week old bottle kittens and 4, 3 days old kittens. We preach spay and neuter because this... this is reality. Your cat that doesn’t need to be fixed because it never gets out, your cat that you just want one litter out of to experience the miracle of birth, the farm cats that don’t need to be fixed because they are just cats or because you need more rodent control... this is more then likely the outcome of it. Kittens that mon couldn’t feed, wouldn’t feed and you don’t have the time... sick kittens .... kittens that have nothing going for them on day 1 of life. These are the kittens you are looking at in this picture. Any idea what it take to foster these neonates? For the 3 days olds days look something like this... around the clock care every 1.5-2 hours bottle feeding and IF it goes well that will take about 4 mins every kitten but don’t forget you need to make sure they are gaining weight with every feed. So you stimulate to go to the bathroom.. weigh ... feed... stimulate to potty again and weigh again... that’s about 8-10 mins a kitten every 1.5-2 hours and again IF all is going well. With 4 kittens in care that takes me roughly 40 mins for these four kittens. Every 1.5-2 hours. Then there is making the milk and brushing them, clipping there nails... checking them over and mini baths between big baths so they don’t get urine burn. Then there is my 2 , 3 week olds. They are bottling every 4 hours and they have JUST started using the litter box on their own. But of course they are not on the same timeframe as the little ones. I’ll let you figure out how much sleep the rescuer doing this job is getting. And the rescuer will do this over and over and over with kittens that are found as surrendered, because if not the only other option is they die. That’s the reality. Death. And don’t forget about the mom cat that’s in this foster home... she had her kitten and is awaiting vetting while she drys up...So we say or bag for you to spay and neuter... we say adopt because it saves lives and helps us clean up the mess that people leave behind. We need to do better. We be need to be better.
