YORKWOOD VETERINARY CLINIC We've been in Keswick since 1996. Our team includes 5 technicians, 2 receptionists, and 2 veterinar

Yorkwood Veterinary Clinic is located in Keswick, Ontario, Canada. We first opened in October of 1996 as a fully accredited Companion Veterinary Clinic with the CVO (College of Veterinarians of Ontario), and re-accredited successfully in October 2001, October 2006 and September 2011. While the majority of our patients are dogs and cats, we also treat rabbits, birds, "pocket pets" such as hamsters and guinea pigs, and small reptiles. From our small and humble beginnings of Dr. Caren Norman, Sue Hodgson RVT and 2 receptionists, we have grown to our present capacity of 3 Veterinarians, 5 Registered Veterinary Technicians, 3 Pet Counselors and a Professional Pet Groomer. Our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventative care for healthy pets; early detection and treatment of disease as your pet ages; and complete medical and surgical care as necessary during his or her lifetime. We continue to upgrade and add to the equipment and services we provide and currently offer medical examinations, full surgical services, in house diagnostics, dentistry, radiology, microchipping, nutritional counseling and the list goes on.

A dog's nose can go from wet to dry throughout the day for perfectly normal reasons, including sleeping, weather, activity, and hydration.

Instead of judging health by nose moisture alone, watch your dog's overall behavior and symptoms.

If a dry nose is accompanied by lethargy, appetite changes, vomiting, discharge, cracking, sores, or other concerns, call (905) 476-5967.

Sometimes gradual weight gain is hard to notice when you see your pet every day.

A healthy body condition involves more than the number on the scale. Your veterinarian can evaluate your pet's ribs, waist, body shape, muscle condition, age, and lifestyle to determine an appropriate weight range.

Wondering where your pet falls? Call (905) 476-5967 to schedule a wellness visit.

Dogs don't always show stress by barking or trying to escape. Their signals can be much more subtle.

Repeated yawning, lip licking, turning away, trembling, tucked tails, flattened ears, or suddenly refusing treats may all be ways your dog is communicating discomfort.

Learning to recognize those early signals allows us to make experiences more comfortable. Have concerns about your dog's behavior or anxiety? Call (905) 476-5967.

Cats may be more independent in some ways, but they still need plenty of care and enrichment. Playtime, scratching opportunities, clean litter boxes, appropriate nutrition, dental care, and routine veterinary visits all contribute to a healthy life. Team cat, team dog, or team both? For pet care questions, call (905) 476-5967.

Dogs communicate constantly through body language. Tail position, ears, posture, facial expressions, vocalizations, and even how they move can give us clues about whether they’re relaxed, excited, nervous, or uncomfortable. Learning to recognize those signals can help you better understand your dog. Questions about a behavior change? Call (905) 476-5967.

Brushing at home is an excellent habit, but it can't remove hardened tartar or fully address disease below the gumline.

A veterinary dental procedure lets the mouth be thoroughly evaluated and the teeth cleaned above and below the gumline, where periodontal disease can develop unseen.

Is your pet due for a dental evaluation? Call (905) 476-5967.

Those little treats can add up faster than you think!

Treats should complement a nutritionally balanced diet, not become a major source of daily calories. Keep portions small and remember that chews, table scraps, and training rewards all count toward your dog's daily intake.

Concerned about your pet's weight or nutrition? Call (905) 476-5967.

We can only imagine what this cat is thinking! Cats communicate a lot without saying a word. Their ears, eyes, whiskers, tail, posture, and vocalizations can all offer clues about how they’re feeling. Learning your cat’s normal body language can even help you notice subtle changes sooner. Questions? Call (905) 476-5967.

Dental disease can be painful long before a pet shows obvious signs of discomfort. Bad breath, red gums, difficulty chewing, dropping food, or avoiding harder foods can all signal a problem.

Regular dental exams and at-home care can help protect your pet's teeth and gums throughout their life.

Have questions about your pet's dental health? Call (905) 476-5967.

Cats are experts at finding the coziest spot in the house, and there’s actually a reason they love soaking up the sunshine. Cats naturally prefer warmer temperatures than we do, so a sunny window can be the perfect place to relax and conserve body heat. If you ever notice changes in your cat’s normal sleeping or resting habits, give us a call at (905) 476-5967.
