Ray Charles - Rainbow Bridge
December 15, 2008 - June 5, 2026
We have heartbreaking news to share.
Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our beloved Misfit – Ray Charles
Ray Charles came to Misfit Manor Dog Rescue over a year and a half ago. He was the epitome of what this rescue is all about. A senior, special needs dog who needed somewhere soft to land. All the other dogs in his home found placement elsewhere but no one would take in Ray. We, on the contrary, had no hesitation taking in a 16 year old dog. We know how difficult it is for seniors to readjust to new lives. This is what we do. Ray became a true poster boy for Misfit Manor.
Although we expected a tired, worn dog, Ray strut into the Manor with a zest for life and spirit that couldn’t be denied. He had vision issues, heart disease and other health concerns but that didn’t stop him from doing anything he wanted. What a spirit!
Anyone who saw Ray was enamored by him. His sassy personality, his ever protruding tongue, his flair for wardrobe changes, his little grunts when he wanted something. He could not be denied. JC and I consider ourselves lucky to have been the ones to cater to his every need for the past year and a half.
Over the past few weeks, Ray Charles’ health and mental state had quickly declined. His very attentive team of veterinarians had been carefully attending to all his needs and ensuring that he was comfortable – always our highest priority for him. Sadly, yesterday, something happened to change Ray’s comfort and we knew it was time to keep the promise we made to him from the day he arrived: that we would do everything possible to give him the very best life, and when the time came, the most peaceful goodbye.
While our hearts are broken, we are grateful for every day we had with him and for the joy, laughter and endless personality he brought into all our lives.
Rest Easy Ray
Special thanks to the wonderful team at Cornwallis Veterinarians Ltd for your love and tender care.
