Red Gate Sporthorses

Red Gate Sporthorses Breeding and training quality sporthorses (primarily Holsteiner, Hanoverian, Trakehner bloodlines) She has also competed through Third level dressage.

Red Gate Sporthorses is operated by the mother-daughter team of Vicki Foerster and Angel Mackenzie. Originally based in Victoria, B.C., we moved to the area of Kemptville, Ontario, in 2000, and have been progressively expanding our 18-acre facility that now includes a 60’ x 130’ indoor arena and two barns with 15 stalls. Angel actively competes our horses in the sport of eventing and dressage, hav

ing competed several horses to the Preliminary and Intermediate/CIC** (now CIC***) level. Angel takes a particular interest in starting and producing the horses with a focus on our homebreds. Angel has recently completed a PhD in Experimental Psychology. Our Breeding Philosophy:

Using horses with proven sport pedigrees, primarily of Hanoverian, Holsteiner, and Trakehner lines, we strive to breed rideable, athletic horses with an emphasis on dressage and eventing. We aim to breed horses that we want to ride – and we hope that you will want to ride them too! From time to time, we have high quality horses for sale including foals, prospects and experienced competition horses.

Bohème

Bugatti Hilltop/Feiner Stern/Erbherzog
2014 true black 16.1 Hanoverian mare, approved Hanoverian, offered as a broodmare for 5🥕🥕🥕 US

Bred by the RCMP and was born on our farm so has only had one owner her whole life.
Bijou has had 3 foals, all by Wynton. We really like this cross, hence why we keep repeating it! She is currently in foal to Wynton for the fourth time and is available open, but can be bred back to the stallion of your choice. She will remain with us until weaning (board paid) in December.

Bijou was started under saddle as a 4 year old but was sadly injured in the field which limited her career under saddle. Although she is sound and could have continued her career under saddle, we elected to breed her instead of putting her back under saddle. Her dam, Fontana, received exceptional Mare Performance Test scores in Germany (9s for walk, trot, and character; 8s for canter and rideability; and even 7s for jumping! Overall 8.16) and produced many offspring for the RCMP Musical Ride - a testament to the excellent rideability of this mare line! One of Fontana's daughters was produced through Prix St Georges by her amateur owner. Fontana's son pulled the carriage that King Charles rode in during his recent visit to Ottawa.

HST to Canadian buyers

Sadly offered due to downsizing. Located in Kemptville (south of Ottawa), Ontario - just across the border from Ogdensburg, NY.

Note: she is a FFS carrier

Shephora
Shakespeare RSF/Gold Luck/Donnerhall
Broodmare offered for 5🥕🥕🥕 US

2011 16.1 German Oldenburg mare, approved GOV and Hanoverian. Bred by Rolling Stone Farm.
Flora was training Third level before an injury, and has had 4 foals (by Dubarry, Ferdeaux, Diesel CF, and Milky Way).

She is currently in foal to Fidertanz and is available without her 2026 foal, but can be bred back to a stallion of buyer's choice at buyer's expense. She will stay with us (board paid) through weaning, November/December time frame.

She seems to produce tall offspring (taller than herself) with good hind legs and tractable temperaments. Three out of four are currently on site. I expect her foals to end up as quality dressage prospects for the ambitious rider, and as Shakespeare received excellent jumping scores at his performance test, I expect decent jumping ability when bred to a dual purpose stallion.

Sadly offered due to downsizing. This mare has a lovely temperament and is very easy to live with.

Our homebred mare, Santeria RGS (aka "Voodoo", 2015 Hanoverian mare - Sir Gregory/Federweisser) proved that she is a Training (EV100) horse this weekend!

At the Stevens Creek Farm Halloween (schooling) Horse Trials, we had the opportunity to try out an upgrade. Voodoo was first after dressage with a great test, scoring 73.9%. An unfortunate two rails in stadium (one completely my fault, although I think Voodoo was a bit surprised that the fences have gotten big enough that she actually has to "try") dropped us down, but Voodoo cruised effortlessly around the cross country.

I have not competed at Training level (i.e., above EV90) since 2016 (last time also on a homebred: Vanity Fair, aka Havana), so this was a big day and a great opportunity!

Yesterday we welcomed Hanoverian inspector, Inga Hamilton, to do a private on-farm Hanoverian inspection. Both foals (Damask Rose RGS aka "Jasmine" - Dubarry/Shakespeare/Gold Luck and Wildfyre RGS aka "Wylder" - Wynton/Bugatti Hilltop/Feiner Stern) received positive comments on conformation and movement, and particularly regarding the success of each cross of stallion with the respective mares. Wylder's dam, Bohème, is back in foal to Wynton (fourth time of this same cross for us!), and perhaps we need to consider breeding Shephora back to Dubarry again! 😄 We have decided that Jasmine is a keeper filly for us, so seeing her present well today was very affirming. 🥰

Super little intro to cross country last night for our homebred, Hades ("Vesuvio RGS" - 2019 Hanoverian gelding, Valentino/Federweisser)! This was Hades' first outing since being started under saddle in 2023 by Matt and Leah Kidney of Stonecrest Stables. He has had a bit of a slow start, partly due to his general fear of life 😅 but largely due to a year and a half of setbacks (between his diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease earlier this year, plus our arena collapse/rebuild).

(Fortunately his big sister, Voodoo (by Sir Gregory), came along to babysit him. 😂 Thanks to Alayne Reed for willingly piloting her over some fences while multitasking as coach!)

Hades put on his big boy pants, progressing from walking over logs at the start to confidently jumping some "bigger" questions!

Wildfyre RGS ("Wylder")
2025 Hanoverian foal looking for his future dance partner!
Wynton/Bugatti Hilltop/Feiner Stern

Wylder is a bold, personable character who would suit an ambitious dressage rider.
His sire, Wynton, needs no introduction, as a preferent KWPN stallion who had a long and successful international career at CDI Grand Prix.
Wylder's dam, Bohème, demonstrated excellent rideability during her brief time under saddle until she sustained a pasture accident and had some time off for breeding. She is sound and rideable, but we have liked her offspring so much that we have kept her as a broodmare. Bohème comes from a family of super rideability: her dam, Fontana, was sold in an elite riding horse auction in Germany, having scored an impressive 8.16 in her Hanoverian MPT (9 and 8 for character and rideability, 9s for walk and trot, 8 for canter, and even 7s for jumping!). Fontana was purchased from Germany for the RCMP breeding program and produced numerous offspring who successfully participated in the RCMP Musical Ride. Most recently, her son Hudson (full brother to Bohème) pulled the carriage that carried King Charles during his visit to Ottawa, thereby demonstrating the great versatility and character of Fontana's offspring.
One of Fontana's daughters (by Graf Grannus) was produced through Prix St George level by her amateur owner.

Thus, Wylder combines the quick hind leg and mechanics of his sire, with the elasticity and rideability from his dam. He has correct conformation with a compact build, and a beautiful head and neck. We have been so pleased with the Wynton x Bohème cross that we have made this pairing four times!
Expected to finish 16.1.

I'm pleased to announce two pregnancies for 2026 for Red Gate Sporthorses!

1) Bohème ("Bijou" - Bugatti Hilltop/Feiner Stern) is in foal to Wynton!
This will be the fourth time we have done this cross! I normally don't repeat breedings like this but I have liked the offspring so much, and it's hard to beat Wynton as a North American-based stallion for performance and offspring results! Fingers crossed for my filly 😄

2) Shephora ("Flora" - Shakespeare RSF/Gold Luck) is in foal to Fidertanz!
I'm really looking forward to this foal - I have been a fan of Fidertanz for a while, especially having seen him on two occasions in Germany (including at the Hanoverian licensing when he received the award for Hanoverian stallion of the year). Another stallion with such proven performance and offspring success.

One mare left to breed who has not been cooperating so far this season - but I'm very excited and hopeful for these two arrivals next year! 😊
