Wise Earth Farm is located at KLO and the Mission Greenway in Kelowna, BC. We grow a variety of vegetables using organic principles and french intensive methods. Our produce is sold at farmers markets,to restaurants, and through a CSA weekly box program.

Saturday saucing 🍅

Last night we made our first batch of homemade heirloom tomato sauce! Made with all the tomatoes we brought back from the farmers market 🥫

To keep things simple and make the most of the whole tomato, we leave the skins and seeds right in the sauce 🍅 then blend it all together into a smooth, flavourful sauce!

Tools we use on our small-scale farm (part 10): a lawn mower!

A lawn mower isn’t just for lawns! We use it to shorten greens (or cover crops) after they’ve been harvested or spent. This works especially well with finer/softer plants like arugula, lettuce, spinach, herbs, etc.

After mowing, we water the section for about 1 hour and then cover it with a silage tarp (black or clear).

Chopping the plant material into smaller pieces + getting it wet helps break it down quicker, returning the organic matter and nutrients back into the soil.

We leave the tarp on the section for about 1 week before checking if the material has been broken down.
