My youngest daughter Michelle turned 7 years old today — Boxing Day 🎉🎈💖
Every year, the day after Christmas, I pack away the Christmas decorations in just one room — the dining room — and decorate it with whatever birthday theme she chooses 🌸✨

My last born is 7… wow 😭💖 Where did the time go?

I still remember leaving the hospital in Kelowna, snow everywhere that day ❄️🤍 🌸💖
And then there’s Michelle being Michelle… On Mother’s Day 2022, when she was about 4, a farm guest who came to our petting zoo 🐐🌸 said her daughter was born in Italy. Michelle replied,
“I was born in the hospital.” 😂💖

🌸💜🌺 40 Photodump 📸. GROUNDED. FLOWING. HOME. 🌺💜🌸

Most of you know me here as the garlic farmer 🌱
Hands in the soil.
Growing food.
Living slow, seasonal, and rooted.
But there’s another part of me I want to share with you today. 💜

Last year at 39, I made promises to myself — and I kept them.
I went to the gym. I worked on my body (still working on it 😅).
And I went back to the river — the place that has healed me in ways I didn’t even know I needed. 🌊

Fifteen years ago, before the garlic, before this life,
I became the first female raft guide on the Zambezi River https://www.facebook.com/share/17FNam5GuS/

Somewhere between motherhood, marriage, and people-pleasing,
that woman got quiet.
In 2025, I chose to show up for MONDE again —
to remember her, reconnect with her river people,
and live more honestly and fully. 💜
Returning to the river wasn’t about going backwards —
it was about coming home.

Just like farming, the river teaches patience, respect, rhythm, and humility. 🌱🌊
And something beautiful happened.
Women in Zambia and Zimbabwe are stepping forward —
training on the Zambezi 🌊
Representation matters. 🌺

At 40, my heart feels full and aligned.
Grounded like garlic in the soil 🌱
and flowing like the river 🌊
Still learning.
Still growing.
Still flowing.
Home. 💜🌸

Stuart Park winter market with the whole crew — kids, niece, nephews… basically half the neighbourhood 😂❄️

Tree lighting + hot chocolate = chaos and cuteness! 🎄💛

Between my 5 kids + niece & 2 nephews = a full holiday raft! ( after 5kids what's one more kid right 🤣🤣) 🚣💛

Giggles, snacks, chaos… and somehow I’m still smiling. 😂🎄

Today’s highlights: my daughter decided to dress up as me for her school's "Dress Up Day"— flannel, jeans, and all — and yes, she nailed the Farmer Mama look! 🧄💚

Being a woman in a man’s field isn’t new — first it was rafting, now it’s farming, all while raising five humans 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ and occasionally refereeing people who still ask to “speak to the man of the farm.” 😎

Yesterday at school pickup my first born daughter goes, “Mom, let’s go shopping for dress-up day!” I ask, “Okay, what are you going as?” and she says, “You.” Cue instant tears 🥹💕 — my little girl wants to be Farmer Mama.
It really hit me — our kids are watching everything we do. Whether you’re kayaking 🌊, garlic-dealing 😏🧄, or just surviving parenthood, little eyes are learning from us!

Being a woman of color in agriculture in Canada 🇨🇦 isn’t something you see every day — and seeing my daughter inspired by me reminds me that what I’m growing isn’t just crops — it’s confidence, courage, and future leaders. 🌱✨

Farming, like rafting and kayaking , is chaotic, hilarious, and challenging — and yes, absolutely a sport. 🏆💚 Today my daughter is officially training to join the extreme agriculture league!

Here’s to all women breaking barriers, showing up in male-dominated spaces, and inspiring the next generation. 💪🏾💕

Bestie adventures wrap-up: Wine? ✔️ Hikes? ✔️ Pancakes? ✔️ Now, off to the gym before my jeans file a formal complaint! 😆💪🏾

Breakfast at De Dutch was the perfect ending to an epic Kelowna weekend with Erika Sedlmair Torrejon . Great food, even better company, and enough laughs to almost count as a workout.

But just in case… gym time it is!

Also, plot twist—I just found out at De Dutch that 'Boers' (a word I heard growing up) actually means farmers. My whole life, I thought it was just a name for South African muzungus. Sooo… turns out, I’m a Boer?! Guess I better start taking this farming thing seriously! 🌾🚜😂
