Sniffs, smells and brain work. This is getting to know the environment, this is socializing, this is hunting. Take your dog's outside and let them be dogs. Whether they are on leash, longline or e-collar these exercises give them the type of enrichment their brain needs.

I know I don't post much about my cats but I do have two. A female tuxedo and a male Bengal mix..
I was cleaning my oven and turned to hear my vibration board click on. He's too funny!

Hunting is a primal urge in all dogs. From your Chihuahua to your Boerboel, your Cocker spaniel to your Great Dane. If you go out in your backyard and toss food around and put it on lawn chairs and under tables and just create a maze out of their food in the morning when they're hungry they'll hunt. Using their nose to sniff out their breakfast will entertain you and it will help your dog with the enrichment they need. We call it feeding the chickens here. Go feed your chickens!

Dogs don't care about the weather! If you're going to have a dog you shouldn't care about the weather either. Dogs need exercise whether it's sunny, raining, snowing or even if it's just overcast and warm. Make sure that your dog gets used to the weather in your area. It's important for them to be socialized to all weather. Let's not raise weather weenies as a good friend of mine once said! Take your dogs outside. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

When you have more than one dog do you treat them exactly the same? The answer is no. Some people may disagree with me but that's the best answer I can give. All dog breeds were not created equally. Take for instance Millie. She has 3 different breeds in her 'pedigree'. Do all of them show up? Yes! So I enrich all of them whenever I can. Tommie is a paper in hand purebred Labrador retriever. I take him out and do things his breed loves for enrichment as well. Do some of the things I do with Millie overlap with Tommie? Sure! But Millie could care less about swimming and Tommie could care less about learning tricks. Get to know your dogs, their needs and their loves. Do with them what they love to do. Your relationship will change in a heartbeat.

This video is a couple months old but it's message is great whenever you're at the water with your dogs. Not all dogs have the same ambition to be in the water. If you want to be in the water with them you can build the drive. However, if you're not going to be in the water with them I don't believe in pushing it anymore. Millie one loved to swim forever to go and get something but she seems to be a little bit more passive in the water now. I'll respect that, I don't go in, so why push her. I want it to be an enjoyable experience for all of us.

What do you do after you roof the ball? Not Tommie's Ball but Millie's ball? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ You take these 2 lovelies for a 5km walk around the school yard instead. PIVOT!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Millie is never impressed with a walk but Tommie is in one of his happy places.

Once Tommie settled into his place he really started to show off his self control. All dogs can learn self control. There are so many ways to teach it as well. I like to use food with Millie sometimes when Tommie is watching because she still has a lower food drive than a lot of dogs I e worked with. However, Tommie learns to wait through watching her. He learns self control and Millie gets food even if she wants the ball instead. Lol

Tommie was beginning to start sneaking things off the floor while I was chopping stuff. This is a few months back. So I decided to review 'leave it' with Millie and teach it to Tommie. I had a 3 minute timer going and this was somewhere in the middle of that time. As you can see he totally forgot 'down' in this context because we hadn't done it before.
