Meet Rio, a beautiful white Golden Retriever who had a bit of an unexpected injury during her adventure chasing squirrels! Unfortunately, a collision with a fallen sign left her with a laceration on her front leg.

Her family brought her to EVC for care, where Dr. Zaid and his team treated her injury with 9 stitches. Rio recovered well from her procedure, and 10 days later, she returned to have her stitches removed. She made a full recovery and was ready for more adventures.

If your pet ever suffers a cut or laceration, it’s always best to have them assessed by a veterinarian, as some wounds may require professional cleaning and repair.

We’re so happy Rio is back to her happy, squirrel-chasing self! 🐕💨

Meet Koda, a handsome American Bully who came to EVC after developing lameness. Further testing revealed that he was positive for both Anaplasma and Lyme disease, two tick-borne illnesses. 🕷️🦠

Thankfully, Koda's mom brought him in for care so that he could receive antibiotic treatment and is now feeling much better!

Ticks can remain active during the colder months, especially when temperatures rise above freezing. Tick-borne diseases like Lyme disease and Anaplasmosis can affect our pets throughout the entire year, so it's important to stay vigilant even after summer ends. 🍂

Keep up with your pet's tick prevention year-round, check them for ticks after outdoor adventures, and contact your veterinarian if you notice signs like lameness, lethargy, or a change in appetite.

🍁 With Thanksgiving around the corner, here is your toxicity reminder.

The table is the busiest part of the holiday and where most pet emergencies begin. A few of the ones people do not always think about:

Onions and garlic are in most stuffing, gravy, and casserole recipes, and both can damage red blood cells in dogs and cats. Cooked bones splinter easily and can cause choking or an internal obstruction. Grapes and raisins, common in desserts and side dishes, can cause kidney injury in dogs.

🐾 Meet Nikita! 💕
This sweet 9-week-old kitten came to us after she stopped eating and began experiencing vomiting. Her bloodwork was generally reassuring, but she was found to have low blood glucose (hypoglycemia), which can happen in young animals when they aren’t eating enough.
While hospitalized, Nikita did well physically and got lots of supportive care (and TLC) from our team. Since little kittens have very little energy reserve, keeping them nourished is especially important. Nikita received a high-energy recovery diet by syringe every 2 hours to help keep her energy levels up while she regained her strength. 🍼🐱
She’s been a little fighter throughout her stay, and we’re so happy to see her going home to finish her recovery with her family. 💕

After 9 years of service, Pearl is officially retiring!

While Pearl has brought so much personality, entertainment, and love to our clinic over the years, she has also developed a few… strong opinions about some of our visitors. 😼

Between occasionally reminding our clients who is really in charge and taking her job perhaps a little too seriously, we’ve decided that Pearl has earned a quieter retirement where she can relax without the responsibilities of running an emergency veterinary clinic.

Pearl will be spending her retirement in a quiet, sunny condo, where she can enjoy plenty of naps, snacks, windows to supervise, and absolutely no responsibility whatsoever. ☀️ 👑

Don’t worry, this isn’t goodbye! Pearl will be living with a member of our team and may still make the occasional weekend appearance at the clinic, so you could still get the chance to see our Queen from time to time. ❤️

After 9 years of being a permanent fixture at EVC, we know the clinic will feel a little different without her wandering the halls. Pearl has been a very special part of our EVC family, and we are so grateful for all the memories, laughs, and adventures she has given us over the years.

Enjoy your retirement, Pearl. You’ve certainly earned it. 👑 😺 ❤️

Meet Georgia!

Georgia came to us after giving birth to 8 puppies at home. After initially doing well, she began straining again and developed a fever.

Abdominal X-rays revealed that Georgia had a retained fetus that had begun to decompose inside the uterus. She also had a very low white blood cell count, raising serious concern for a uterine infection.

Georgia was taken to surgery for an ovariohysterectomy (spay) to remove the presumably infected uterus and retained fetus.

Thankfully, Georgia's surgery went smoothly, and she recovered well from anesthesia. ❤️

She is now home recovering with her puppies, and her family will be keeping a close eye on her as she heals.
We're wishing sweet Georgia and her puppies a smooth recovery!

Meet Nala!

Nala came to us with a swollen, uncomfortable ear flap, and after consultation our team diagnosed her with an aural hematoma.

An aural hematoma occurs when small blood vessels in the ear flap rupture, causing blood to collect within the ear. The result is a soft, swollen, “balloon-like” ear flap.

They’re often caused by excessive head shaking or scratching, which can be triggered by ear infections, allergies, or irritation.

Treatment focuses on draining the hematoma and, most importantly, treating the underlying cause to help prevent it from returning.

Thankfully, Nala was treated and is on her way to a much happier, more comfortable ear! ❤️
If you notice sudden swelling of your dog’s ear flap, it’s always worth having them checked by your veterinarian.
