☀️🐾 As temperatures rise, so does the risk of heatstroke for our pets. Here's what every pet parent should know to keep their dog or cat safe this summer:
🌡️ Watch for the signs: heavy panting, excessive drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or wobbly movements. Gums are a good indicator too, bright pink or red in the early stages, turning pale or grey as heat stroke progresses. If your pet seems disoriented or collapses, it's an emergency.
🐕 Some breeds are at higher risk, especially flat faced breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, and Persian cats. As well as senior pets, puppies, kittens, and those with thick coats or health conditions.
💧 If you suspect heatstroke: move your pet to a cool, shaded area right away, offer small sips of water, and use cool (not ice cold) water on their paws and belly while heading straight to your vet.
🧊 Prevention tips:
- Keep walks to early morning or evening
- Always provide access to fresh water and shade
- Never leave pets in a parked car, even for a few minutes
- Try cooling mats, vests, or bandanas to help regulate their temperature
- Keep some cool or frozen snacks on hand for a refreshing treat
Our pets rely on us to keep them cool and comfortable. Stay safe out there! 😻🐶
