🖤 BLACK SMOKE — a little demon with the sweetest soul

Black Smoke is one of the most dramatic Maine C**n colors. With their dark faces, piercing eyes, huge ears and silver coats, adult Black Smokes can look almost like little demons. 😈

But the appearance is wonderfully deceptive. Behind that wild, mysterious look, they can be incredibly gentle, affectionate and sweet-natured Maine C**ns.

And perhaps the most fascinating part of Black Smoke is watching the color develop.

Black Smoke kittens are born looking almost completely black, sometimes with just a few lighter grey areas on the face and body. As they grow, the pale silver undercoat gradually becomes more visible. The coat gets longer, the contrast becomes stronger, and that little dark kitten slowly transforms into a spectacular silver-and-black adult.

What makes a SHADED Maine C**n so special? ✨

Shaded Maine C**ns have one of the most striking and elegant coats in the breed. At first glance, they can look almost silver or white — but look closer, and you’ll notice something beautiful: only the tips of their hairs carry color.

This creates that signature soft, sparkling effect — almost as if the coat has been lightly dusted with silver. ✨

🤍 So what does “shaded” actually mean?

In a shaded cat, the base of the hair is very light, while a relatively small portion of the tip is colored. The amount and distribution of this tipping determines how light or dark the overall coat appears.

Shaded kittens can also change quite dramatically as they grow. Their coat develops, the contrast becomes more defined, and a kitten who looks quite dark at a young age may become surprisingly light and elegant as an adult.

And perhaps the most fascinating part?

No two shaded Maine C**ns look exactly the same. Some are almost snow-white with a delicate veil of color, while others have deeper, more dramatic shading.

✨🐾 From tiny fluff to a stunning young Maine C**n 🐾✨

It’s amazing how fast they grow…
Just a short time ago this little silver boy was a tiny baby with big eyes and soft fuzz.
And now — look at him!
Fluffy, elegant, expressive, and full of that classic Maine C**n charm.

His silver coat opened beautifully, his ears grew tall, and his personality blossomed — gentle, curious, and sweet.
Watching him grow has been such a joy 💛

And now this handsome young kitten is getting ready to join his lovely new family right here in Ottawa.
We’re so happy for him and for the wonderful people who will welcome him into their home ❤️
