🐍 July 16th is World Snake Day! 🐍

From small corn snakes to impressive pythons, snakes come in an incredible variety of shapes, sizes, and colours, and they can be found all over the world. They can also be found in many homes, as snakes have become a popular pet amongst reptile enthusiasts.

While snakes are often thought of as low-maintenance pets, they actually require specialized care to thrive. Proper heating, lighting, humidity, nutrition, and enclosure setup all play an important role in keeping pet snakes healthy, and ensuring they have a good quality of life. It is also important to ensure that you have a veterinarian who is familiar and comfortable with snake medical care, should the need arise.

Did you know that here at PVEH we have our very own clinic pet - a corn snake named Rigatoni? Rigatoni was adopted from the BC SPCA in November 2024 and lives in a large, bioactive enclosure in our reception area. Stop by to say hi and see if you can spot him hanging out amongst the greenery! In his spare time, Rigatoni likes to help our team members become more comfortable with snake handling and husbandry.
