Cash recently graduated our ā€œFreedom At Lastā€ private session program and is living his best life!

He started his program at 9 months old. His owner started to see major changes in his behaviour and knew she needed more help then the obedience classes she had previously attended. Walking him had become a chore. He was overexcited, pulling, reacting to dogs on leash and completely tuned out. He was reactive to people coming in the house, wasn’t a fan of being kenneled, started showing signs of seperation anxiety and was an overall nuisance.

His owner put 100% into the program and their results are incredible. Cash’s walks are enjoyable! He can be walked on or off leash around the neighbourhood while ignoring other dogs, he is settled in the house, he can go into public calmly, and he can pack hike with other dogs. He is able to be a part of his family’s life no matter what they are doing and they spend a lot of their time together off leash hiking!

This was a complimentary program! We are going to be offering one complimentary private session program when I’m running board and trains. The free program will only be offered to dogs who fit out private session criteria and owners who are super committed to their dog’s success and are going to put the work in. We understand that training is costly and we’re happy to be able to offer this a few times a year!

Murphy has been home for 2 weeks and I just keep getting more and more reports from his family on how awesome he is doing!

Murphy and his family recently graduated our 6 week behaviour modification program.

This big guy came in with a long list of issues that were slowly getting worse by the day and his family felt hopeless. They had been working with a trainer for many months with little to no change and both the topics of rehoming and euthanasia had come up since they deemed him untrustworthy.

We are SO thankful we were able to be apart of Murphy’s journey. He has done a complete turnaround and is now a pleasure to live with inside and outside the home. From daily on/off leash walks, chilling at home, going for outings, off leash hikes; he is just an enjoyable companion to spend time with. His family couldn’t imagine him not in their lives.

Yes, we got the ball rolling in the right direction but his family has stepped up to the plate BIG TIME! They have changed their views on dog ownership, they have changed the way they interact and live with him and they put in the work every day.

I am so so so proud of everyone. I am so proud of Murphy and I’m proud of his family.

This is another dog that gets to stay in his home due to proper training. It’s due to a successful program and proper techniques, approaches and tools.

In the end this is what every trainers goal should be! It’s what this job is all about!

Cash and his family are working through our ā€œFreedom At Lastā€ private session program.

He has completed 4/10 sessions and is already a different dog!

Cash’s family is 100% committed to the program. They put in the work that is required, stays super consistent and asks lots of great questions!

*** An update from his owner!

ā€œHope your weekend was good!! Just wanted to give you an update because I’m so impressed with Cash!! We took him to Cabela’s and winners yesterday and winners Canadian Tire and Bradford greenhouse today and he did great! Walks calmly, lays down if we’re looking at stuff, sits in line while we wait, and lays down at the cash while we pay šŸ˜‡ I also pushed a cart around at Bradford greenhouse and he could careless. He is also so good with place… practiced on our bath mat, kitchen mat, laundry room mat and front door mat šŸ‘šŸ¼ as for doorbell I got Ry to ring the doorbell and wait for me to come to the door when he got home from golf to catch Cash off guard and Cash was on place chilling on his own regard (not in view of the door) and didn’t make a peep or get off even when I went to the door to open it!!!! My parents are coming for a visit tmro aft so I’ll get them to do it as well! Woohoo! You’re the best! And my ecollar comes Tuesday!ā€

Laura just recently finished our 5 day Shadow Program!

She brought along her 2 yr old Old English Bulldog Mara!

Laura wanted help with cleaning up leash work, long line work, how to properly introduce the e-collar, reducing speed and increasing focus in the recall and transitioning to off leash!

We had an awesome 5 days! Her and Mara progressed significantly and went home with a solid plan on how to reach her goals!

Thank you for spending the week with us!

I cannot wait to see the progress these two make together!

Murphy!

Murphy is a 1 1/2 year old Old English Sheepdog that is here with us for a 6 week board and train!

He’s been with us for just over a week and we are having such a blast with him!

His family reached out because of a long list of issues they were struggling with.

Murphy had zero manners! Jumping, mouthing, knocking the kids down, destroying the house, reacting to strangers specifically kids inside and outside the house, extreme reactivity when someone came to the door, obsessing over light spots and shadows and acting possessive over his kennel.

This boy is BIG and he had become unmanageable and unenjoyable to live with.

Murphy’s family has been working with a trainer on/off for the past 8 months. He was deemed ā€œstupidā€, ā€œuntrainableā€ and wouldn’t ever be trustworthy in certain situations. The topic of rehoming and or euthanasia was brought up.

Murphy is VERY sensitive. First he needed to be slowed down….way way way down. Once we slowed him down and starting teaching him a clear communication system what we are left with is a very unconfident, insecure but VERY sweet boy who genetically is actually pretty chill!

There’s a time for running, jumping and acting crazy. It isn’t on the leash, in the house , in the car or in public. He can act like that (while still having manners) when he’s in the yard and when he gets off leash time. His family does a lot of hiking, and cannot wait to include him!

We’re looking forward to not only teaching Murphy a new way of living but also working with his family and teaching them how to be the best owners they can be for him!

It doesn’t matter to us what happened in the past. It doesn’t matter who did what and who made this or that mistake. All we care about is starting over, moving forward and helping him and his family enjoy their lives together!

June Update!

June was supposed to start training with us today, but unfortunately she injured her leg two days ago.

She is currently undergoing diagnostics at the vet to figure out what the best care plan is for her!

Our number one priority is our dog’s physical and mental welfare so her program is being put on hold.

We are still working with June’s family to come up with a management plan to help them better navigate their day to day with her.

June knows all of her obedience commands but struggles with her state of mind. She has been trained with a prong collar and e-collar but still pulls on the leash, whines in the house, bolts out the door, is always at level 100 and has recently started showing reactivity towards humans. None of these issues are ā€œfixedā€ or even improved with obedience commands.

We will be giving her family homework to address her state of mind with some of these issues so they can gain back control and have a game plan until we start her program!

We support our clients before, during and after their programs!

Welcome to The Structured Canine!

We believe in training the whole dog; both the body and the mind.

We not only focus on solid obedience but we also focus on a calm, healthy state of mind. These two things go hand in hand and a dog will continue to struggle if it has one without the other. Being able to communicate effectively with your dog creates a sense of calm in your dog and calm dogs make better choices!

We believe in balance which means we teach and reinforce what we like with food, toys and praise but we also stop unwanted behaviours with tools and effective yet humane techniques and methods. This is a big piece of the equation that is often missing when trying to stop our dogs from doing things we don’t like. You will never stop a behaviour with positive reinforcement. When you actively stop the behaviours you don’t like or want, and reinforce the ones you do, that’s when the magic happens.

With effective communication, state of mind awareness, relationship building and accountability, we begin to develop a happier, more confident and more dependable dog!
