Looking for a new friend? Meet Domino - A hound mix with a nose for adventure and a heart full of energy!

Domino is looking for an active family that’s ready to keep up with his zest for life. He’s always ready to explore on an adventure walk or scenic hikes. His hound instincts are strong, and his nose is always hard at work!

Domino is currently learning his leash manners and making great progress. He’s a smart, enthusiastic learner who’s excited to continue building skills and confidence with a patient, loving family by his side. Training time for Domino isn’t just about learning-it’s about bonding, having fun, and burning off some of that happy energy.

If you’re looking for a fun-loving, adventure-ready companion who will happily join you on hikes and long walks (with plenty of sniffing stops along the way), Domino might be your perfect match!

DEAR MILL MAMA: You’re 8 years old, and finally… you’re free from being bred ever again.

I’m sorry it took so long.
You are incredibly well-tempered, gentle, and so beautiful. And I understand exactly why the mill held onto you for as long as they could — as long as your body could continue to produce puppies, you were valuable to them.

But today marks the start of a new chapter.

Today is retirement.

A life where you are no longer useful only for what your body can produce but cherished for who you are. From this moment on, we will tend to all of your medical needs over the next few weeks as we work toward getting you healthy, comfortable, and adoption-ready. A life of rest, safety, and kindness is no longer a dream, it’s your reality.

This girl is the living proof of the ongoing plight of puppy mills right here in Ontario. Despite the promises made, Doug Ford’s PUPS Act has done nothing to protect dogs like her.
It didn’t save her.
It didn’t stop her years of exploitation. And it didn’t intervene until her body was finally used up.

She deserved better, years ago.

But we can’t change her past.
What we can do is make sure her future is everything she was denied.

Please join us in welcoming, Gypsy, to our rescue.

KHALEESI’S JOURNEY CONTINUES — AND WE ARE NOT GIVING UP ON HER: Khaleesi has been with us since April 2025, and while her road has been far longer and harder than anyone hoped, one thing has never changed: we are committed to her, no matter how stubborn this condition proves to be.

When Khaleesi, a 3-year-old Neapolitan Mastiff, first came into our care, her body told the story of profound neglect and exploitation. She was painfully thin, covered in lesions, with severely infected ni***es — clear signs of a life spent being used as a breeding machine. Her uterus was filled with fluid, and her anxiety in the shelter was so extreme that we knew she wouldn’t survive there much longer.

A dedicated foster stepped up, and for the first time, Khaleesi was safe.

Since then, her life has revolved around veterinary care and recovery. One of her most persistent challenges has been entropion, a painful condition where the eyelids roll inward, causing the lashes to scrape the cornea like sandpaper. It is constant discomfort — every blink hurts.

Khaleesi has already undergone two surgeries to try to correct this. Each time, we hoped it would finally stick. Each time, it didn’t.

And yet, she keeps going.
So do we.

Khaleesi is now scheduled for surgery #3, with a ophthalmologist at VEC on February 3rd. These stubborn entropion eyelids are testing everyone involved — but giving up on her is simply not an option.

Our financial investment in Khaleesi to date: $15,553.52

That number represents months of care, diagnostics, surgeries, medications, and follow-ups — all so this gentle girl can one day live without pain. She deserves to open her eyes without discomfort. She deserves relief. She deserves a future that isn’t defined by suffering.

We keep adoption fees reasonable because we believe every dog deserves a chance at a loving home — but dogs like Khaleesi often cost many MANY times more than we will ever recoup. That’s the reality of rescue, and why we must ask for help.

As a registered charity, donations are tax receiptable, and every single dollar goes directly toward giving Khaleesi the comfort she has never known. If you’re unable to donate, sharing her story also makes a real difference.

Khaleesi has already endured so much.

Thank you for standing with her.

Meet Reba 💕

Reba is a gentle, tender-hearted 2-year-old girl who’s ready to turn the page and begin a brighter chapter of her life. While her past wasn’t always kind, it never dimmed her loving spirit, it just made her a little bit shy at first. Reba may take a moment to warm up, but once she realizes you’re safe and kind, she blossoms into the most loyal little best friend you could ask for.

She does well with other dogs and would enjoy a canine companion, though she hasn’t had the chance to meet a cat yet. Reba could be a wonderful fit for a home with older kids (10+) who understand how to be gentle, patient, and respectful as she builds trust.

Reba is eager to love and be loved, and she’s dreaming of a home where she can finally feel safe, cherished, and forever. If you’re looking for a sweet soul to grow with you and remind you every day how powerful kindness can be, Reba might just be your perfect match. 🐾

Brrr… it’s cold out there! ❄️

With frigid temperatures expected this weekend, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is reminding pet parents to take extra care to keep animals safe. Even short trips outside can be dangerous in extreme cold. Keep outdoor time brief and watch for signs pets are getting cold, like shivering or lifting paws. Cats, puppies, seniors and short-coated dogs are especially at risk.

Cold weather also brings hidden hazards. Cars lose heat quickly, so pets should be left at home when running errands. Cats may crawl under vehicle hoods to stay warm, so knocking on the hood or honking before starting your car can help save a life. Salt, ice melters and antifreeze can also cause harm, so wiping paws after walks helps protect your furry friend.

If you’re concerned about an animal left outside or in distress, contact Provincial Animal Welfare Services at 1-833-9ANIMAL (1-833-926-4625) or your local police. If an animal’s life is in immediate danger, call 911.
