The beagles aren't big on water, so they are voting for more trail walks/hiking this weekend so they can catch up on all the forest critter smells.

Got some great news from students that were competing in SDDA this past weekend! Congratulations to Fern and Stevie on all of their accomplishments!
Fern got some qualifying scores in excellent, distance, speed and aerial. She also earned her Aerial Games title and her Distance title.
Stevie earned qualifying scores in speed, aerial and team, earning her Team Games title and her Games Champion 2 title! (Games Championship titles are composed of multiple titles in aerial, distance, speed and/or team.)

First week of Introductory Interiors and the dogs worked on tracking down the scent tin on chairs. I love watching them as they encounter the scent, then play the warmer/colder game to track it down. Then the 6:30 pm Scent Skills class worked on hides that were not visible to the dog or handler, and sometimes the location was known to the handler either. The dogs use the same skills to narrow down the location to solve the more challenging problems

Walking with your dog - it sounds so simple, but often isn't. Dogs that are excited to sniff and explore often pull, which in turn often makes the walk uncomfortable or even dangerous for their person. Good news! I can help you teach your dog to walk close beside you on a loose leash, and to walk out in front of you without pulling you along behind them.
✅ Teach your dog the behaviour(s) you do want
✅ Add in challenges and distractions
✅ Be consistent! Don't follow pulling dogs
✅ Reduce reward frequency
I love seeing loose leashes and dogs that are happy to be walking with their people.
It sounds simple, but small adjustments in focus in timing can result in big benefits, so if you have tried teaching your dog on your own and aren't seeing the results you would like, message/email me about private lessons to get unstuck and on your way to enjoyable walks.

Scent skills practicing a new aerial search set up. It can be a challenge to freeze on objects that move, but I find it is helpful for dogs to learn to control the force of their push as they freeze.
