Meet Jackson ❤️
Jackson is a long-haired Shepherd mix, around 2–3 years old, and this sweet boy has already been through more than any dog should have to endure.
Jackson had been wandering around a local hamlet for several days before he was finally captured and brought into our care. When he arrived, he had several puncture wounds covering his head and neck - wounds that appeared to be the result of a dog fight. Unfortunately, by the time he came to us, those wounds were badly infected and he needed veterinary care immediately.
Thankfully, Greenview Veterinary Clinic was able to squeeze him into their already incredibly busy schedule right before the long weekend. After a bit of a funky haircut to allow our veterinary team to properly treat him, Jackson underwent some serious wound care. His wounds had created large cavities underneath his skin that were filled with infection, so they needed to be reopened, flushed, drained, and cleaned out thoroughly.
To say Jackson was sore afterward would be an understatement. He has been recovering with pain medication and antibiotics, and we are SO happy to say that today, his wounds are looking fantastic! His drains can now come out, and while his face and lower neck are still swollen, there is a very noticeable difference in this boy.
And perhaps best of all? Jackson is acting like Jackson again.
He’s eating great.
He’s drinking great.
He absolutely LOVES snuggles.
And we’ve discovered that this handsome guy knows how to sit AND shake both paws!
Someone clearly spent time with Jackson at some point in his life. He knows some manners, he enjoys affection, and there is a really special dog underneath that shaggy Shepherd coat.
It’s honestly heartbreaking how many animals come through our doors who are never claimed. Dogs who clearly belonged to someone. Dogs who knew commands, loved people, and had someone take the time to teach them - yet somehow, no one comes looking for them.
But Jackson’s story doesn’t have to end there.
Things are looking up for this sweet boy. His body is healing, his personality is shining through, and we cannot wait to watch him flourish as he continues to recover.
