Just because they’re a furry friend, doesn’t mean it’s easier. Losing a pet is grief. 🐾

It doesn’t always get recognized as that, but the families who’ve been through it know.

The house feels different. The routine is gone. There’s a particular kind of quiet that follows.

In the weeks ahead, we’re going to be talking more about how living memorials can be part of honouring a beloved pet, because they deserve to be remembered with the same care and intention as anyone else we’ve loved.

A few things grief teaches you in time: ⏳

That the second year may be harder than the first.
That certain songs will always belong to certain people.
That caring for something living—like a plant or garden—gives your love somewhere to go.
That you don’t stop missing someone, you just get better at carrying it.
That asking for help is not the same as falling apart.
That falling apart is okay when you need to.
