⭐️ Meet our team!
Many of you guessed it! We are thrilled to be welcoming Dr Lauryn O’Brien to our practice. She spent some time with us last fall, and will be joining us as a DVM beginning in June. We will spend the next several weeks getting her acquainted with our clients and patients.

Dr O’Brien was born and raised in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia. She completed a BSc in Biology at the University of Prince Edward Island prior to completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Atlantic Veterinary College. She grew up riding around the hunter ring before moving away for university, and has always loved working with horses. As a new veterinarian, she is looking forward to establishing meaningful connections with clients and to provide consistent, quality care to patients. She enjoys integrative medicine, and is currently working towards becoming a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist. This will be an excellent asset for our patients and we are excited to be able to offer this service soon! Outside of work she is looking forward to exploring New Brunswick and all things outdoors with her fiancé, Connor, and her dog, Odin.

🦷Little Apples is pushing 30 years old, and understandably needs a bit of help to maintain her pearly whites. Senior horses are apt to develop periodontal pockets, loose teeth and diastemata and often require more frequent dental care. Apples checks every box on the senior dental bingo card, and has lost a few teeth over the years, but no extractions needed today! We ❤️ Apples 🍏

⭐️Meet our team! I have new team members joining me this year and will take some time to introduce them.

Riley is a summer student, and will be assisting in looking after our short-term stays in clinic. Riley just finished her first year of university at UPEI. She is in the pre vet program with the goal to become a veterinarian. She has spent her life around horses and has a strong passion for them, and spends her personal time competing in reining. She is excited to keep learning and growing in the equine industry, and we are happy to have her with us for the summer!

The changes to veterinary care in our province have many horse owners understandably concerned about their ability to receive care. Like the other handful of private large animal practices in the province, we have been inundated with new client requests from horse owners looking to establish a VCPR. We are accepting new clients in the Saint John, Sussex, Fredericton and Moncton regions and are actively recruiting new veterinarians to ensure we can handle this added caseload, and continue to offer the same high-quality personalized care to horse owners in an expanded service territory.

Our base clinic is in Norton with easy access off the highway, short term stabling and safe handling facilities for horses. We make weekly trips to service the Moncton and Fredericton areas and will be continuing to provide after hours care, as always. For clients who keep their horses at a distance of 45 minutes or greater from our home base, we do advise that they be prepared to trailer in the event of the need for urgent care. Of course, in cases such as a down horse, severe lameness or severe colic that would preclude safe trailering, ambulatory care would be provided at your farm. If you are looking to be added to our client list, please send an email to [email protected]

We require all horses to be kept current on rabies and tetanus vaccines at minimum and to see our patients for an annual wellness exam, vaccines and/or dentistry at least every two years in order to be eligible for 24/7 after-hours service.
