Corgi's are great support dogs and they love helping with chores around the house...

Even if it is just providing emotional support when laundry needs to be folded.

How am I supposed to get anything when this belly demand scritches?

When your 150 lbs guardian breed turns into a teeny tiny little puppy!

Because he has an achy tum tum and now he needs emotional and physical support to eat his breakfast.

Only because he is such a picky eater and he will wait until he has the biggest rumbly in his tumbly and refuses to eat the gourmet meals in front of him.

If a boy needs his mamma's help, mamma helps.

One year later… 🐾

She is loved.
She is safe.
She is part of our family.

And all those fears I had in the beginning?

They didn’t disappear overnight…
but they softened as confidence grew.

If you’re in the middle of puppy blues right now, I want you to hear this:

You don’t have to have it all figured out.

Start small.
Focus on connection.
Build calm, one moment at a time.

Even our Mastiff — who helped raise her — became part of that journey.
All the training, all the learning… it mattered.

Not because it was perfect.

But because we kept showing up.

And that’s what your dog needs most.

Not perfection.
Just you 💛

If this resonates, I’d love to hear your story below. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

I’ve had puppy blues before.

When I brought home my Mastiff, I felt it too.

And at some point, I had to make a choice:

Stay stuck in the fear…
or step into the responsibility.

Not perfectly.
Just intentionally.

That decision changed everything.

Instead of asking:
“Am I doing enough?”

I started asking:
“What does my dog need right now?”

That’s when I began learning more.
That’s when I started building calm routines.
That’s when everything slowly began to shift.

And something beautiful happened…

The anxiety didn’t control the experience anymore.

Growth did.

Your puppy doesn’t need perfection.
They need someone willing to learn 💛

Let’s talk about puppy blues for a minute.

It doesn’t always look like sadness.

Sometimes it looks like:
• Overthinking everything you’re doing
• Feeling like you’re getting it “wrong”
• Worrying your dog deserves better
• Feeling overwhelmed by the responsibility

For me, it wasn’t just the puppy.

It was grief.
It was fear.
It was the weight of loving dogs deeply and not wanting to fail.

And at the same time…
I was already raising my Mastiff puppy.

So instead of just “adding a puppy,”
it felt like adding pressure.

But here’s what I’ve learned:

Those feelings don’t mean you made the wrong choice.
They mean you care deeply.

And that matters more than doing everything perfectly.

If you’ve felt this, you’re not alone 💛

One year ago, we brought home our Corgi 🐾

I expected joy.
I expected excitement.

What I didn’t expect?

The quiet anxiety that followed.

Because here’s the part people don’t always say out loud…

Sometimes bringing home a puppy doesn’t just feel happy — it feels heavy.

I had just walked through losing 3 dogs in 2 years.
One of them only 5 months before we brought her home.

And suddenly, this tiny life was in my care and all I could think was:
“Can I really give her the life she deserves?”

That’s the part I want to talk about this week.

Because if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed after getting a puppy…
you’re not alone.

This week I’m sharing the real side of puppy blues — and how it can actually lead to something beautiful 💛

New skill unlocked 👇🏻

Gracie has been working hard learning something new to help with her herding skills.

Daily walks are great for our dogs but it is important to fulfill their natural instincts.

As we progress with this the distance will be increased and the challenge of getting the ball into the "goal".

To follow our progress be sure to follow Calm & Clever Canines

This is why crate training is important👇🏻

The crate provides a safe and comfortable place to relax, decompress and rest. 😴

After a busy morning of training, playing in the rain and daily grooming duties Gracie just wanted a moment to chill.

The crate door is always open so she can go and rest as needed.

Just like us our dogs need a safe place to unwind.

Follow Calm & Clever Canines for crate training games and tips.

Right now, things are a little slower in our home 🤍

My mastiff is in a recovery period, and a big part of that isn’t just physical healing—it’s helping his nervous system settle and reset.

That’s meant quieter days, more intentional calm, and honestly… some long, tired nights helping him settle.

At the same time, I have a young, energetic corgi who still needs guidance, structure, and an outlet for her energy.

So right now, I’m holding both:
🐾 creating calm and rest for one
🐾 while providing simple, focused enrichment for the other

And what I’m being reminded of (again) is this:

It’s not about doing more with our dogs…
it’s about doing what actually meets their needs.

For my mastiff, that looks like slowing everything down.
For my corgi, it’s short, intentional moments of mental stimulation and training.

And even in the middle of being tired, I can see how much this matters.

Because when a dog’s needs are met in the right way,
you start to see more settling… more balance… more peace.

If you’re in a season where things feel a bit overwhelming with your dog, you’re not alone. 🤍

Sometimes the smallest, most thoughtful shifts make the biggest difference.

What’s one thing your dog is needing more of right now?

I Walk My Dog So Much But They’re Still Hyper🤦‍♀️

“I walk my dog all the time… why are they still so hyper?”

This is more common than you think.

Long walks and lots of play can actually build your dog’s endurance.

Which means over time…
they need more and more just to feel tired.

And if there’s not enough time to decompress in between?

They can stay in a constant state of stimulation.

It’s not that you’re doing something wrong.
You’re trying your best.

But sometimes the shift is this:

Less intensity
More intention

Try adding:
• sniff-focused walks
• slower activities
• quiet moments after exercise

The goal isn’t just a tired dog…
it’s a dog who can relax. 😉
