Is your dog a TICK MAGNET ? If you find one- do a full tick check - there are likely more !
Due to the increasing number of ticks this year, we are holding a second clinic, testing for tick borne diseases. Friday, June 19th - we are dedicating the day to testing. No exam needed - just a quick blood draw. Give us a call to book your spot ! These ticks were found on JJ and Reid - Dr. Harris-Dain's dogs.

Meet Nora, Dottie and George! Today these 3 came to visit Dr. Harris-Dain for their annual wellness exams....it has been 2 years since we first saw them as kittens - it was fun to see them again, and to learn how each one has taken on a different personality, even though they are related. They are quite the trio - keeping Mom busy at home.

Follow along as we share with you two dental procedures that we did today. First in line was Rory! He had broken a slab off his upper 4th premolar and it was determined that it had to be extracted. Rory was unsure as to why he was not given breakfast this morning, and he wondered what he was doing in the clinic, but he was very brave. His parents helped ease his nerves by staying with him until he was sedate. His blood work was normal, IV fluids were started, his teeth were scaled, polished and xrayed, and the broken tooth was removed. When he woke up he was on great pain meds, and he felt better than he did before the procedure. He was such a good boy, and waited patiently for his parents to rescue him again at the end of of the day. Second in line, was Reid. Yes, staff pets need dental work too ! Reid is Dr. Harris-Dain's Golden. His nerves were eased by the use of pre - visit, fear free meds, given a couple of hours before he came in. This enabled him to relax calmly for the morning, while he waited for his turn. He was lucky that he did not have any extractions. Just a preventive clean / scale/ polish and xrays for him.

4DX Clinic !! Saturday May 9th !! Call to book, and ask us for our special Spring Pricing.

Spring is here, time to start thinking about ticks and mosquitos and their effects on your dog. On May 9th we are hosting a clinic during which time our technicians will be drawing blood samples to test your dog for the following diseases:

Anaplasma and Erlichia - tick borne, bacterial diseases. Both can cause any or all of the following symptoms: fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, joint pain, and bleeding due to decreased platelets. Transmitted by deer ticks and brown dog ticks.

Lyme - transmitted by deer ticks, also causes fever, lameness, joint pain, decreased appetite, muscle pain, etc....with the added bonus of potential kidney disease.

Heartworm - a parasite transmitted through mosquito bites. Causes lung disease, heart disease, organ damage. Signs including coughing, fatigue and weight loss.

One dog may be infected with any or all of the above diseases at the same time! All 4 can be ruled out at the same time with a simple SNAP antibody detection test.

Be sure to get your dog tested, Saturday May 9th, and keep them safe by giving them a monthly preventive product.

Call us at 902-443-9385.

"Veterinarians: Guardians of food and health"

"This is the theme of the 2026 World Veterinary Day - a public campaign highlighting the systemic role of veterinary services in safeguarding food safety, public health and animal health worldwide.
From farm to fork, veterinarians are at the front line of ensuring that food of animal origin is safe, nutritious and responsibly produced.
Key messages from the World Veterinary Association:
- Veterinarians play a critical role throughout the entire food production chain - from animal health management on farms to inspection, disease surveillance and food safety systems.
- Food safety is fundamental to human health.
- Veterinarians recognise the interconnections between animal health, human health and environmental health.
- Veterinarians are trusted experts in crisis prevention, monitoring, detecting and responding to emerging diseases that may threaten food supplies and public health. "

This is celebrated annually on the last Saturday of April to raise awareness of the veterinary profession's crucial contributions to society.
