Our mission is to provide Canadian gardeners with the tools to do their part in continuing to regreen the landscape, starting with their very own backyards. We offer over 200 species of native wildflower and heirloom vegetable seeds. All of our seed are non-GMO, open pollinated and ecologically farmed or ethically collected from local seed sources. We do not use any chemicals on our products whats

We’re so happy to introduce you to Sofia and Éloïse, our wonderful Student Field Crew! 🌱

They joined us in the field this summer, getting their hands dirty and quickly becoming extremely helpful members of our team. And the good news? They’re sticking around! 💚 Sofia and Éloïse will be continuing with Northern Wildflowers part-time throughout the school year.

It’s goldenrod season! 💛

Goldenrods are lighting up the landscape with their brilliant yellow, and they’re doing much more than adding a splash of colour to late-summer and fall gardens. We offer seeds for two native goldenrods: Grey Goldenrod and Canada Goldenrod. Both are excellent plants for supporting pollinators and adding biodiversity to your garden. 🐝🦋

And speaking of goldenrod… there’s a common misconception we’d love to clear up:
🤧 Goldenrod is often blamed for fall allergies, but it’s actually ragw**d that is the culprit! Goldenrod and ragw**d bloom at around the same time, which has led to goldenrod getting an unfair reputation. But their pollen tells a very different story. Goldenrod pollen is relatively large and heavy, making it poorly suited to becoming airborne and reaching our nasal passages. Ragw**d, on the other hand, produces small, lightweight pollen that is easily carried by the wind, and is a major cause of seasonal allergies. So the next time you see goldenrod glowing along a roadside or meadow, think pollinators, not allergies!

Grey Goldenrod: a beautiful native species for fall garden interest with soft, silvery-grey foliage and arching clusters of yellow flowers.
Canada Goldenrod: a familiar late-season native that produces abundant golden flower clusters and provides an important source of nectar and pollen for a wide range of insects.

Goldenrods are a wonderful reminder that native plants are an essential part of healthy ecosystems. They provide food and habitat for wildlife, support pollinators late into the growing season, and help keep our landscapes diverse and resilient.

It’s officially aster season! 🌸

As asters begin putting on their fall show, we wanted to highlight a few of the native aster species we offer seeds for: Smooth Blue Aster, Flat-topped White Aster, and New England Aster.
Beyond their beauty, asters play an important role in our ecosystems. 🌿🐝 Their late-season flowers provide valuable nectar and pollen for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators at a time when fewer plants are in bloom. Their seeds also provide food for birds and other wildlife.

Smooth Blue Aster: delicate blue-violet flowers that brighten up meadows and naturalized gardens.
Flat-topped White Aster: clusters of white blooms that are always covered in pollinators. New this year.
New England Aster: one of our showiest native asters, with vibrant purple flowers with contrasting golden centers.

Planting native asters is a simple way to add seasonal beauty while supporting the wildlife that depends on native plants. And with aster season here, it’s the perfect time to appreciate just how much is happening in our landscapes, even as summer begins to fade. These are just a few of the more abundant wild asters in our area, there are so many beautiful native species of asters.

Hostas are boring.
A plant dying isn’t necessarily a gardening failure.
Buying seeds counts as gardening. I will not be taking questions.
Gardening doesn’t have to be "productive" to be worthwhile. Do it even if you're not replacing your groceries.
Perennial gardening is 20% planting and 60% moving things around and 20% w**ding.

“Where did all the bees go?”

If your garden feels a little quieter in late August, don't assume the pollinators have packed up for the year. Pollinator activity changes throughout the seasons.

In spring, you'll see early-emerging bees visiting the first flowers of the year. Summer brings a huge variety of bees, butterflies, moths and other insects. And as we move into late summer and fall, the cast of characters, and the flowers they're relying on, changes again.

That's why late-season blooms matter.

Native plants such as asters, goldenrods, mountain mint, Helen's Flower, Spotted Joe-Pye w**d and other late-blooming species can provide important sources of nectar and pollen when fewer plants are flowering. For some pollinators, this late-season food can be especially important as they prepare for winter or, in the case of certain species, produce the next generation.

So when you see a garden full of goldenrod and asters in September, you're not looking at the leftovers of summer. You're looking at a late-season pollinator buffet. 🌼🐝

And that's one reason we love keeping something in bloom for as long as possible.

We were recently featured in Corporate Knights’ article, Canada’s native seed sector is scaling fast. 🌱

Canada’s need for native seed is growing rapidly as restoration, reclamation and naturalization projects expand. At the same time, the sector is navigating an important challenge: how do we scale production thoughtfully while ensuring the right species, genetics and volumes are available where they’re needed? Scaling this sector isn’t simply about producing more seed; it’s about growing intelligently, strengthening connections between growers and buyers, and ensuring the right seed is available for the landscapes that need it.

For us, this is about more than growing seed. It’s about building the infrastructure, knowledge and relationships needed to support a resilient Canadian native seed sector, and ultimately, healthier landscapes.
