🐾Pet of the Week at the Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter🐾
Pepper is a 1-year-old tortoiseshell with quite the story to tell. In such a short time, this brave girl has already overcome more challenges than most cats face in a lifetime. Pepper was found living on the streets with her two kittens and was brought to us by a kind member of the public. The kicker? Pepper has cerebellar hypoplasia, a condition where the cerebellum in the brain is damaged or underdeveloped, resulting in some challenges with balance and coordination. Pepper may have a few extra wobbles, but don’t let that fool you — this girl is tough. Despite her condition, she managed to keep herself and her kittens safe from wildlife and the elements while living outdoors. Now that her kittens are safe, Pepper is ready for someone to give her the same care and security she gave them.❤️ The good news is that cats with cerebellar hypoplasia have the same lifespan as any other cat, and the condition is not painful. Pepper doesn’t know she’s any different — she’s simply a cat who happens to have a bit of an unconventional walk! 🥰
Her new family will just need to make a few simple accommodations to help her succeed, such as:
🐾 Sturdy food and water bowls that won’t easily tip over
🐾 A large litter box that is easy for her to enter and exit
🐾 Carpets or rugs to give her extra traction and stability
Pepper is also very shy, so she is looking for a quiet home where her new people understand that trust takes time. She’ll need patience, kindness, and the freedom to settle in at her own pace. Once she feels safe, she’ll be able to show you the sweet girl underneath that shy exterior.❤️ After everything Pepper has been through, we think she deserves a forever home where her wobbles aren’t seen as limitations — just one of the things that makes her uniquely Pepper.
