🐾 **You don’t have to explain your entire life story to adopt a cat from us.** 🐾
We know there are a lot of negative experiences out there when it comes to adopting animals. Some people have been asked incredibly personal questions, made to feel judged, or left feeling like they have to somehow *prove* that they’re worthy of having a pet.
That’s not how we want adoption to feel. ❤️
When you apply to adopt from **Nickel City Cats**, we do ask questions — but there’s a reason for that.
A lot of what we collect is **data**. We want to be able to show that an accessible, judgement-free approach to rescue actually works.
Because when people have access to **spayed and neutered cats at reasonable adoption fees**, they are less likely to turn to “free kittens.”
When fewer people are looking for free kittens, fewer kittens need to be born simply to meet that demand.
And when fewer kittens are born into situations where homes aren’t guaranteed, **fewer cats end up needing rescue in the first place.**
That matters to us.
And honestly? **None of us at Nickel City Cats are perfect.**
Our executive team and our fosters come from all kinds of different backgrounds. We have different experiences, different families, different homes, different circumstances and different stories.
We aren't a group of people who have somehow figured out life perfectly.
**The one thing we have in common is that we love animals.** ❤️
So why would we expect perfection from the people who want to adopt them?
We don't.
We're not looking for your five-year life plan. 😂
We don't need your entire personal history.
We aren't trying to catch you out.
And we're not looking for reasons to say no.
**What we care about is pretty simple:**
🐱 You’ll love your cat.
🏡 You’ll provide them with a safe, loving home.
❤️ You’ll treat them as a member of your family.
🐾 You’ll be committed to caring for them for the rest of their life.
And we also understand that sometimes, despite everyone's best efforts, **a cat simply isn't the right fit for a particular home or dynamic.**
Cats have personalities. People have personalities. Other pets have personalities. Families have dynamics. Sometimes you can do everything right, make what seems like the perfect match, and discover that it just isn't working.
That doesn't automatically mean someone is a bad adopter.
That's why **Nickel City Cats offers a 3-month return policy.**
We want people to have the opportunity to see how their new kitty settles into their home without feeling like they're trapped if the match isn't right.
If there is a legitimate reason you can no longer keep your adopted kitty, **we want you to contact us.** We would much rather have that conversation and safely bring the cat back into our care than have someone feel ashamed, judged, or afraid to ask for help.
And returning a cat does **not** mean you're permanently blacklisted from adopting from us.
If circumstances change, or you simply realize that a particular cat wasn't the right fit for your home, **you are still welcome to adopt from us again in the future.**
Because responsible rescue isn't about finding homes that look perfect on paper.
It's about creating **successful, lasting matches** — and having a safety net when sometimes, despite everyone's best intentions, things don't work out.
There is **one exception** to our usual approach: our **Special Adoption Kitties.**
These are cats who may require a little more from their adopter — whether that means ongoing or specialized care, particular household considerations, or because they are purebred and have different adoption requirements.
For those cats, we may ask additional questions because **their individual needs matter**, and we want to make sure we're setting both the cat and adopter up for success.
But for the vast majority of our cats?
**We aren't looking for perfect people.**
We're looking for people who will love their cat. ❤️
Rescue doesn't have to be intimidating.
Adoption doesn't have to feel like an interrogation.
And you shouldn't have to prove that you're a perfect human being to give a cat a good home.
**We're not perfect. You're not expected to be either.**
We just want the right cat to find the right person — and if it turns out we got the match wrong, **we're here to help fix it.** 🐾
